  1. Having had two near misses with mobility scooters turning into the road in front of me this week I am beginning to wonder if they are the new urban terrorists. Without warning they both simply made right angled turns to cross the road and not at designated crossing points. About time these people needed to pass an assessment before being allowed out in public. I am sympathetic to their needs but a lot of them are a danger to themselves and everybody else.

  3. The one you show in your picture Rog., in no way should be classed as a Mobility scooter. It is more like a utility pickup or small estate car. Machines like these should never be allowed on pavements and should be licenced and insured. I believe road version are supposed to have registration plates, as they are mechanically propelled vehicles. My missus' machine is nowhere near that size.

  5. Years ago I knew a man whose wife needed one but never used it as she never left the house. He went to the pub every lunch time using the scooter, as he admitted that it was the only way he could make it home. Our friendship never lasted long after I expressed my opinions to him on driving it on the pavement ,whilst plastered.

  7. Ref. Sturmer Archer gears. Many years ago, in the 70s, when my son Andrew was at Aspley Wood school, I was a school governor along with the Chair, a lady called Iris Archer. She happened to be the granddaughter of the Mr.Archer who invented the gear hub. She told us that Raleigh offered Mr.Archer a halfpenny for each gearbox made or a lump sum. He took the lump sum. Mz Archer said if he took the halfpenny for each, he would have become a millionaire. (Think I've mentioned this afore).

  8. Sorry. For the late reply. Only just spotted this. I’ve ridden thousands of miles on an FW (4 wide) SA hub without a hitch. I changed later to an FM hub (4 medium ratio) and never had any bother with that either. They do need a real tug to move into 1st gear (2,3 and 4 gears are the same as an 3 speed) and the 4 speed trigger can slip out first if it’s not in excellent condition. The hubs themselves are fine. There are reports that the 4 speed hubs can burst apart but I think they were modified. I was a fairly strong cyclist and never had a problem. There is a lot to be said for a 3 speed whic

  14. The easiest blanket to do in any weight yarn from DK and below is just to start with one stitch and increase at the beginning of every row in 2nd stitch till it measures 18ins down the side, then decrease on 2nd stitch at the beg of the row till finished. All knit rows. easy peasy.

  15. If it wasn’t for the fact that his team have the best defensive record in Ligue 1, conceding the fewest goals, currently lie second behind PSG, and have qualified for the Champions League, I’d suggest Forest go after the goalie for French club Lens.
