  1. More satsifying to do it yourself, I agree, but it doesn't have to be very expensive - I do it!
  2. A site from the British Council showing various films including one on Raleigh from 1945. See if you can see someone you know! http://film.britishcouncil.org/british-council-film-collection?p=2&
  3. Richard T died in 1932 and married Elsie S Smith in 1924. There's a Letter of Administration for him where Elsie Sybil Stapleton adminstered the estate Searching for any births of children with mothers maiden name Smith throws up a few possibilities but without birth certs, can't be sure that they were the children of the right couple. Elsie may have remarried - to an Arthur L Cree in 1936, although can't see any children born to them in Notts. Emma Jane left a Will. Might be worth getting a copy of that to see who is mentioned and their addresses.
  4. There are lots of named photos of men in 508 PIR here - pehaps you'll be able to spot him! http://www.508pir.org/co_pix/index.htm. The site also has a photo of band members taken at Wollaton Park in 1944
  5. Don't suppose you mean the WW1 plaque from Mundella? There's information about it here - it was recovered from Portland School, Bilborough http://www.mundella.org.uk/miscellany/79-service-of-rededication
  6. There are 2 things I remember him for - he appeared on the front page of the Evening Post when he made some of the boys have their fashionably long hair cut short. The other one was something that he recited to us in a Music lesson which I remember to this day quadrupedante putrem sonitu quatit ungula campum. Googling it leads to this explanation By the age of Augustus, poets like Virgil closely adhered to the rules of the meter and approached it in a highly rhetorical way, looking for effects that can be exploited in skilled recitation. For example, the following line from the Aeneid (V
  7. Williams was the Headmaster during most of my time there. Can't say I ever had much to do with him but don't remember anyone saying he was so awful!
  8. 17 Brighton 18 Millwall 20 Queens Park Rangers 23 Halifax 25 Spurs
  9. Tried to send you a message piggy and babs but it tells me that you can't accept new messages! Thanks for the info on the thread but can you tell me more, please! Who did Ada marry and when? Did Fanny remarry after Enoch's death and if so, to whom? Which census do the James and Annie you mention appear on? What was your Mum's name and where was she born?
  10. The family search site is good - some census for free and baptisms and marriages https://www.familysearch.org/ For BMD after 1837, have a look at FreeBMD http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ Also the Gale Newspaper database. You may be able to get it for free via your local library. If not, join Lancs Libraries (you don't have to live in Lancs), to get access to it.
  11. I'm a professional researcher and wouldn't bother with Genes Reunited for looking at records. Ancestry and FindmyPast are much better. You might be able to view Ancestry at a local library for free. Ancestry also have some of the 1911 census now, including Notts. Piggy and Babs If you post some details, I'll have a look, if you like.
  12. I assume you don't know his real name, or where he was born? A few ideas.... Find out from newspapers local to where he as appearing, if you have places and a rough idea of date, the name of the show or company. The Company may have Archives. Electoral roll for the 2 streets in Nottingham (held at the Local Studies Library in Nottm), although you'd need the whole of both streets and, if he wasn't born until 1934, he wouldn't appear until 1955 ish - ie when he was 21 and eligible to vote. Also, if he was only living there short term or wasn't born here he may not appear.
  13. Pleased to hear it was the right death! As you say, he may well have moved - hope not, but if you don't hear, pm me his name and details of his parents, if you've worked them out, and I'll see what I can find.
  14. This is the only Lucy Willoughby death I can find in Notts - may be the right one, assuming she didn't remarry! Lucy Willoughby 1887 Oct-Nov-Dec 1976 Nottingham Nottinghamshire
  15. Could this be Frank's death in Sheffield, therefore ruling him out? Also, the only one of the three where I've found a possible death in Nottingham is Arthur - Arthur Willoughby 1893 Jul-Aug-Sep 1982 Nottingham Nottinghamshire Frank Willoughby abt 1892 Oct-Nov-Dec 1927 Sheffield Yorkshire West Riding
  16. Note, though, that the Notts Family History records are by no means complete.
  17. Do you know his wife's maiden name? If not, you could get it by ordering the birth cert for one of their children. At least with his wife's name you may be able to find their marriage, although you don't know where it might have taken place! The record MAY give Henry's fathers name, which might help in finding a baptism. As he was an Innkeeper there may be an obit for him in the local newspaper. He may also have left a will, so it could be worth getting a copy, if so, just in case he left anything to any siblings, although as he had so many children, perhaps they, or his wife, if she wa
  18. When was Eva born and where? Do you know her parents names?
  19. You haven't said, but were these two married to one another? If so, you need to order their marriage certificate to get both their fathers names, then hopefully you should be able to trace them on the various census
  20. Doubt it - Swabey is my married name and as far as I know they are all Southerners!
  21. Sucky to me means overly sentimental and the word for someone who was gormless was cakey!
  22. There's some information here http://southwellchurches.nottingham.ac.uk/nottingham-st-peter/hchyard.php
  23. More information about the Asylum here, with an indication of available records which are held at Nottingham Archives http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/details.asp?id=2517&page=78
