  1. Thanks all. In the end, got the free bus from the station to Parliament St and then caught the 89!
  2. Live near London, not in London, and most people drive around here, but not me. I go further afield, too, but have to pay full fare
  3. Thanks again. I'm used to the London Oyster card - strictly no cash! How much is it likely to be, roughly, then I can make sure I have the change
  4. Great - thanks for replying so quickly. Can I pay cash on the bus, do you know? Haven't caught a bus in Nottm for years!
  5. City Hospital map and Bus info online are neither use nor ornament! Have to visit someone tomorrow, who is in Southwell Ward, which is Yellow entrance and near Hayward House. Which bus can I get from MIdland Station and City Centre, please, and, if City Centre, where do I catch it? Can I still pay cash on the buses? Thanks
  6. My Dad is on that Elastic Yarns photo, but as I sent it to the Lenton Times for their website, no doubt they got it from that
  7. I was only 10, then, so would have passed me by!
  8. I thought the same, Jonab, as many are carrying their hats
  9. What a brilliant photo! Can't help with identification of where it is, though. Looking at the 1911 census, he seems likely to be Ephraim Pope Short, Photographer, living at 35 Derby Rd, Nottingham. He was still at that address when he died, in 1932
  10. I've found it in the London Gazette and sent it to Col. It's not expensive -It's free to search the Gazette
  11. True - citations for the MM for WW1 are generally not available. It might get a mention in his Unit's War Diary, or like my Great Uncles MM, be mentioned in his local newspaper. London Gazette is notoriously difficult to search. Try searching just using his Regimental number - nothing else
  12. Hope all goes well, Ben, and a trip to Spain will be just the thing!
  13. And so many lives were lost - don't forget that
  14. Don't you think that your views are provocative for those who don't agree with you?
  15. Col at least makes intelligent observations - if you can't be bothered to read a few paragraphs, then what does it say about you? A contrary voice against the predominately right wing members (well, those who post). Would never agree with those who think Thatcher was a "good thing"
  16. I love him too. When did you see him at the Palais?
  17. I thought I knew all about my Mum, but in the 1939 Register, when I expected her to be living with her Mum on Western Boulevard, as I thought she always did, showed me that she was at my Dad's sister's house, not very far away,in Kennington Road, 2 years before she married my Dad. Very surprised, but too late to ask
