  1. He was blonde and he was small. I remember meeting him on a darts night in a pub at Carlton. He took a shine to the landlord we had gone with, grabbing his arm and uttering the imortal words'Oooh , Hercules unchained'. the landlord never lived it down. The pub was the General Havelock on Ronald Street in Radford and the landlord was Lol Lowe at the time. A
  2. Does anyone know anything about Keith Black, he lived in Highbury Vale around about 1943, he went to live with his father when his parents split up. His fathers name was Charles and his mother was Charlotte known by all as Betty. He has a brother in Australia caled Micheal and a half brother in Derbyshire called Kelvin. Any ibformation would be useful as his brother in Australia has been trying to trace him for years. A
  3. How about the memory of music you could understand. Being able to go shopping on Hyson Green and not having to spend a fortune to buy the makings of a Bacon sandwhich. Browns bread and bacon from a butcher with a handlebar moustache. The statue at the Old General being decked out in his red robes at Christmas. The copper topped tables in the Johnsons Arms. God, I'm old... A
  4. Have you tried changing a fuse? Seriously, I do not have any problem this end and my setup was purchased from Noah when the Ark looked like it was going down... A
  5. All I can say is 'thank heavens I'm not an ex-pat' As soon as your back is turned one can feel the sharp point of a knife in it. I will never go and live anywhere else just in case... A

  9. Does that mean it is second rate? We do not know what is good in your neck of the woods, so you will have to be a bit more explicit. A
  10. I have come to the conclusion, Ilko, you are mad!!!! I mean that in the nicest possible way. I am sat here taking all this information in and ready to print off the solution to BIPs problem, I then reach the end of the post and think; what's aa 'jumper'? I am never going to believe anything you say, and I didn't realise I was sooooooo gullible!!! Please do not ever change the way you are, I can always rely on your posts to cheer me up when I need it. 12. The earlier post was of Skegness pier, of course, not of Trent Bridge. Just to clarify the item. A
  13. All expired, no doubt, from smoking tooooooooo many ciggys... A
  14. Looking on Google I foune this about a diver with one leg. He originated from Skegness and my other half can recall seeing him diving off the Suspension Bridge into the Trent. He also did a 'turn' at Goose Fair diving into a tank of water that had been set on fire. I will try and attach a picture, but don't hold your breath. A
  15. Toooooo late Frank, the game was given away one minute past twelve this morning. Look at the announcement bits at the bottom and your age is there for all to see. Happy birthday and many more of them, you still have some way to go before you catch up with me. Leo's can turn nasty if provoked. A
  16. Market days are normally Thursday and Saturday. There is sometimes a Farmers market on a Friday but I can never work out which Friday in the month it is. A
  17. That is right Rob but they built a new one on Aspley Lane some years ago. The one you know was the original school started by the lace industry many moons ago. Maid Marion Way runs from Friar Lane downwards and Granby Street runs from what I can only think is Chapel Bar down to the Island. Just me being picky. All the Aspley buses used to run from there when I was a lot younger. A
  18. If this is the 16 did it not go to Granby Street? A
  19. This is what I thought also. The clue, which Rob didn't understand, was to do with the Bluecoat school. The original schoolwas started by the lace makers when they moved to Nottingham. My Aunts family were the original lot who came to Nottingham and started this school for the apprentices to the lace makers. When the school on Aspley Lane was opened my Uncle had some of the old card lace framed and some indenture papers framed for the school to display in their foyer. I believe her family were the first ones to make lace on a carding machine. Don't quote me on this 'cause I have been kno
  20. Anything to do with the Lace market? A
  21. No Rob, you are not up the wrong oak. Robert Shaw used to make hair nets and they then went into Speedo, who, I might add, are still going strong. The dairy is now a warehouse type jobby where you can buy anything from a bar of choccy to a 42 inch plasma TV. If you go, watch it because the prices do not include VAT and are slightly deceiving. A
  22. I may as well Den, I get just as many visitors! I actually back on to a nature reserve and the pond looks just like this one at the moment. I am waiting to see what the kids do to it now they are at home, the only consolation being that the council clean it up regularly. So does that mean the picture is Wollaton Hall lake? A
  23. The pond looks like the bottom of my garden!!! A
  24. Was that the Gaumont cinema or, again am I in totally the wrong street? A
