  1. Could it be Robin's ego? Just a thought... A
  2. Is it something to do with them being free range and able to scratch about in the grit? I know cold tea will stain the shell brown but I think the real brown eggs are to do with feeding. A
  3. Anywhere near Trowell Moor, or have I missed the mark yet again? I am no good what so ever at finding my way around so it is purely a guess. A
  4. Did Rob mean Cathy Burke of GIMME, GIMME, GIMME fame? If not I don't think the 'Burke' was aimed at anyone in particular, he went to High Pavement and William Crane so he would not be so rude... A bighug
  5. One legged or not, I reckon that is a Stirrup Pump that was used during the war to put out fires. They were only small fires or the women would not have been allowed to touch. A NB I like her hat...
  6. I am sure I have put this on here before but I cannot find it anywhere, so here goes again. Taken around about 1953/54. A
  7. Here is a picture from around about 1952/53. If you recognise anyone then please post a reply. A
  8. The name is not quite right but I'll let you off... Lana Turner it is then. What was the phrase that was associated with her? Refers to an article of clothing. Jane Russell had a bra designed by someone famous, like Howard Hughes, to keep her ample curves in check. Just a bit of useless information that one stores. A
  9. Which Hollywood actress said this: 'A successful man is one who makes more money than a wife can spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.' What was her debut film? She's an old 'un and she had a well known nickname. A
  10. Was it Nicholas and Alexandra? A
  11. Taking that one step further, did you know it was illegal to buy a Bible on Sunday, but you could go in to a newsagents and purchase a magazine off the top shelf. Total hypocracy or what? At home Sunday afternoon was the time for the family to play games together. I remember playing cards and dominoes with my mum and dad. Rationing was still in force and we would have a Mars bar and slice it up to share. This was when Mars bars were twice as big and a lot more chocolate on them. Oh happy days... A
  12. I wonder if this is slightly biased because the population ratio has changed somewhat? I like some curry dishes but I also like the Arabic dishes, Tagine for instance. I also like the lamb sausages called Mergers. Cooked in a tomato sauce they are wonderful. A
  13. Would that be thoughts on where they live or what they are called? A
  14. This should take you all of thirty seconds to come up with the solution. Who are these three and were did they live? A
  15. I have a George VI coronation tea spoon. I think it turned up in a job lot I bought on a trip to a Belgian flea market. I bought loads of spoons with adverts on them for the princely sum of £1.50 in proper money. Sold most of them but kept the one that was terribly British. A
  16. You speak for yourself, Rob/ I still enjoy dipping my toes in the water, the only thing I find it hard to get away with is tucking my skirts in the legs of my under garments. I tend to get stared at on the Boulevard. A
  17. The problem is not that the Lido was up the other end or on the moon, it is how you are interpreting the original posting. The Lido was at the other end of the Boulevard but is now no more. The paddling pool has always been situated at the Beeston end of the Boulevard and is now not in use. As I see it, Archiboy is to add the Lido to the paddling pool and develop it from there, not to open the original Lido again as this would be impossible. Hope this is a bit clearer and I don't get so up tight again. I will keep taking the pills and see what transpires... A
  18. The image is the old paddling pool at the Beeston end of University Boulevard. There used to be some sort of archery club on there as well. The Lido was up the other end but I assumed from Archiboys' posting that the idea was to develop the paddling pool site and add a Lido to the same area. Good luck rith the project, I hope it succeeds. A
  19. Spot on Rob. Not my original question, just added this as an afterthought. A
  20. In the same vein, who might this be? A NB I found out how to post pictures so theres no stopping me now... ezj
  21. A masterpiece it may be, but does it resemble the original?? And, who made it that big? A
  22. It looks like it is one and the same as he remembers him having a son called Micheal. He was good at cartooning and would ask the kids to come and make a scribble on the board and then turn it into a character. This is what he remembers he looked like but he always had a seven o'clock shadow. I have attached an image to put him on site for posterity. This is the best one he came up with, the others looked like a cross between Marty Feldman and a Rottweiler chewing a wasp. A
  23. I would like to take a degree in English. I did Communications as 'A' level in 1987 and that was good as well. Spoilt for choice... A
