  1. Don't know if anyone's still got their darts at the ready, but this is me last summer (sucking in the gut!) This image has been updated by an Administrator
  2. How did this innocent discussion go from the corner shops to disgusting insects and vermin?!!! This one's for the girls, do any of you remember a dress shop on Parliament street named Anne Brook? My mom worked there in the 50's. She told me she got the job there just so she'd have a nice wardrobe for when she moved to the states! Isn't that just like a woman, more concerned about what to wear than anything else!
  3. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :D I replied to your PM so you can send me the e-mail address. If you weren't so far away, I'd give you a big kiss! (Not that kind of kiss, don't get excited boys!)
  4. Welcome to all, it seems I'm not such a newbie anymore! :D
  5. Well, leave it to my mom to give the wrong information!! She must have got the rotating dancefloor confused with the Palais. Anyway, the answer was Don Smith and the Stardusters. Their best known song was Georgia. They were a local band that played at The Astoria Ballroom every night unless they got a headliner.
  6. Well, that picture you posted looks just like what my mom described (on a corner, steps infront) I also know it had a rotating dance floor All I know about the band is the name of the leader, the band, and their best known song. What is the hit parade? Remember, I'm just a yank and this was WAY before my time! I was born in 1970!
  7. All right guys, I'll give you till the end of the day (your time) then I'll ease your mental anguish!
  8. And no, it's not an Ambrosia sky, but there is a dusting of stars. Come on, I all but gave it to you there! The "Mr. Smith" thing is a hint to the band leader. About the song, it's a southern state y'all, and by the way, is it peach season?
  9. I can't believe I stumped you! This one is courtesy of my Mom, just so ya know! :D
  10. Nice try, but try again! I'll give you a hint, look to the sky for the band's name. And the song, it's the name of a woman and a state in the US
  11. Did you get the pictures I sent? I have 1 more of me in Ilkeston that Ilko or Scooterboy might recognize.
  12. Is anyone here a member (a paying one) of Friends Reunited? I did a people search on that site and it pulled up a Richard Whitmore, but you have to be a paying member to contact him via e-mail.
  13. OK, since you guys like trivia so much, here's one for you. Who was the resident band at The Astoria Ballroom during the 1950's? And what was their best known song?
  14. Thanks for the photos Ilko, My mom said she went to that Sunday School, and her grandmother lived 2 doors up from it. She went to Granby School also. Uncle Harold was a colliery manager, and Ray was a painter and decorator. His wife's name is Beris if that helps.
  15. Hello and welcome! I'm a newbie myself and I'm enjoying the site already! Tell us a little about yourself! :D
  16. I just stumbled upon this site while trying to find information for my trip to Nottingham. I liked the name!
  17. Ilkolad, I spoke to my "Mum", and she said she lived on Wesley St. in Cotmanhay. She had an uncle who lived in Ilkeston all his life named Harold Tunnecliff, and a cousin named Ray. Do you know of either one of them?
  18. How old is that photo I saw of you and the baby on a tractor? You look like you're in your 30's!
  19. I'm looking at the photo, I don't know where I was other that across the street from a place called "Bridgemastic Roofing Contractors". It doesn't look like a very chic neighborhood. I have a feeling it's close to where my Great-Aunt lived.
  20. I'm not quite sure where exactly, but I'll call her in the morning and find out. (It's midnight here). I'm just curious how old you are. I saw your picture and you look about my age (My driving license says I'm 34, but I'm still convinced I'm 22!) . I have a picture that was taken of me when I was 16 with 3 guys I didn't even know in Ilkeston. My sister and I were just walking and they just walked up to us and started talking. As soon as I figure out how to attach it, I will.
  21. Ilkolad, I see you're reading this! PPPLLLLEEEAAASSEEE help me! Yes, I'm too much of a sissy to do it myself!
  22. I tried that 192.com and it came up with 4 of that name, but you have to register and I guess it costs money to get more information than just the name and city. Besides, I don't want to call, what if he's married or lives with a girlfriend? That wouldn't go over too well! :o
