  1. Was the pub across the road from Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem called Cross Keys or was that the one near the top of Hockley? There was a Cross Keys at Burton Joyce I remember.
  2. We lived in Sherwood in the early 70s, first in a rented flat just off Mansfield Rd, then in a small new development - Larwood Grove - at the bottom of Edwards Lane. We were on the hospital's grid, so were unaffected by the power worker's strike.
  3. I went to HP from 52 to 56 but left under a cloud. I disliked school and played up in Classical 3, whereupon I was relegated to General 4. A long stint of non-attendance led to my departure. Somehow I managed to turn myself around and had a successful career.
  4. I've read that it is now four days. Perhaps someone can confirm that or otherwise. It was certainly Thursday, Friday, and Saturday when I was young. We lived on Noel Street, very close to the Forest, so we were well aware of the fair.
  5. It was: My mother would often say (in dialect), “If you want summat doing, do it yoursen.”
  6. This was something my mother was fond of saying. Has anyone else heard this? “If you want summat doing, do it yoursen Something else she used to say was "m'ont" for "mustn't". Has that been heard elsewhere?
  7. I was born on Gregory Boulevard, lived on Noel Street for around 18 years, and then moved to Keyworth. After marriage, in between spells in Sweden and Finland, we lived in Sherwood and just off Edwards Lane. Then we moved to Somerset followed by Australia. I went to High Pavement Grammar, but left under a cloud when I was fifteen.
  8. I'm delighted to find this site, as I've been asked to provide some memoirs by my daughter. I was born in Nottingham in 1941 and lived there on and off until 1973. I now live in Australia. I've returned twice for family reasons in 2001 and 2010. I was amazed by how much Nottingham had changed on both occasions but expecting it to remain the same is unrealistic.
  9. I worked at Hunt and Colley's in the 50s (also at Trent). I'll post my experiences later.
