  1. Ashley, you're right - his work outside of Lizzy was far more impressive; my favourite albums are Still Got The Blues and After Hours, both of which are classics and both are on Spotify if people want a quick listen.
  2. A nifty little piece of software that calculates the direction of light at any location at at a specified time. It is a map-centric sun and moon calculator that lets you see how the light will fall on the land. You can even select sites by postcode. The desktop version is free, if you want it on your mobile you have to pay. More info here - http://photoephemeris.com/
  3. Still Got The Blues - pure class. I remember seeing the Gary Moore Band at the Boat, does anybody else?
  4. Aircraft were also involved at the 1976 show, during the Todd Rundgren set there was a WWI dogfight, I often wondered how you staged that to coincide with the songs being performed on the stage.
  5. I went to that one and managed to survive all three days but i think we left early on the third day. Force 8 gales if I remember - I think we slept in a car as the tent just wouldn't stay up, I do remember running out of dry clothes on the first day; and you're right it was flippin freezing. Despite the weather, it was a pretty good line-up. Also went to Reading on a few occasions but my favourite was Knebworth which had some classic line-ups - went there in 1975, 1976 (managed to get a backstage pass), 1978 and 1979, http://www.knebworthhouse.com/rock/rockconcerts.htm
  6. All the Gaffa fans on here might like this piece of news, http://www.nottinghamcontemporary.org/event/gaffa I'll be there.
  7. Don't forget The Imperial on St James Street, they used to have some good bands on in the Cooler Bar; the hotel on Maid Marian Way was the Albany.
  8. There's an article on the closure of Trent in the latest issue of Left Lion - http://www.leftlion.co.uk/articles.cfm/id/3412 A PDF download should be available soon.
  9. I normally send mine as an attachment but I know some mail programmes compact them to make it easier; one other option you could use is an upload server such as, http://www.sendspace.com/
  10. The TBI has been bought by Wetherspoons, perhaps, they've already started the refurbishment?
  11. If you click the following, the download should start automatically - it's only a small exe file. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
  12. Best programme to clean any system is CC Cleaner and it's free, http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
  13. Cheers Mick, I hope you and your family have a great Christmas. As for this forum it's a wonderful resource for those interested in Nottingham and it's people - you've helped create a mini library on the city we all grew up in.
  14. I've seen him a couple of times but was never that keen on his solo work but preferred his collaborations with Frank Zappa - my favourite is an album called Bongo Fury. Here's a live version of Willie The Pimp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XA5wfv0QrY
  15. Just a vague recollection but wasn't there a childrens home on one of the avenues - first, second or third? The houses there are certainly big enough.
  16. We went a few years ago and had a great time but we went via Euro Star. The advantage about staying on site is that you have access to all the rides after the day trippers have gone. The adults really enjoyed the Studio Park and the kids loved the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (might still be there); we also found a great pizza place to eat on site called Colonel Haithi's - it was reasonably priced and the kids enjoyed the food. If you get bored, you can always venture into Paris using the train station that is virually on site.
  17. Miss Rollinson was still there when I left in '66. The school, which has always had a strong link with its community has recently had a few problems with Ofsted but has now restored it's reputation as a quality school. The funny thing is my wife went to Haydn at the same time as me but I don't remember her - I think football was more important! Plus both my kids went there so I've been a frequent visitor to the old place.
  18. According to the Mechanics he passed away 10-15 years ago, does anybody know if he had any children? I wonder what happened to all his negatives?
  19. Thanks Denshaw, I've asked a few other people so I'll give it a few more days before I follow the Mechanics route.
  20. Denshaw, thanks for that - I've got somebody trying to get some reprints from photographs that were taken years ago.
  21. I've had an enquiry on Flickr about Charles Noble Photography who used to be based in the Elite Buildings and if memory serves me correctly, were near neighbours to Jack Denman's Casting Agency. It's a bit of a long shot but has anybody got any idea what might have happened to them?
  22. I think Jason Lee is currently at Ilkeston Town.
  23. Ashley, from what you say there wasn't much left - I think they were relying on local knowledge which in this case appears to be mistaken.
