Camp near Walter Halls School
ube replied to Paddy Wheatfields's topic in General Chat about Nottingham
The hutted area is ruffly where Elliott Durham school tennis courts are... The cutting to the right is the Nottingham surban line ran through Mapperley Tunnel to sherwood station... It was a stop hospital for troops they were to be brought in by train... I know this because about 20 years back the caretaker (and mate of mine) of Walter Halls was clearing the cellars out and found a bricked up doorway, behind it they found 100's of old never used stretchers and other medical stuff plus the original plans, but it was never put to use -

What a brilliant school loved me time although I was always in trouble... Preferred the stool ball across me arse than the hard slap across the bare thighs... Miss Rogers and Mr. Beesley were the experts at that

Everything in there used to taste of mint no matter what you brought from there... I used to live in the Bookies(Jack Hardys) at the top of Eaton St opposite the church, our back came out on the street many a happy time spent on that Street it had everything you needed for fun times there was even a small holding at the bottom(Woodwards) in fact I went back there afew weeks ago and me initials are still craved in the bricks of the old barn.... Can't recall Mr. Upton though -
Was owned by Ralph Holmes my father in law... Terry was one of the mechanics.. Terry's dad was the shop manager I think round about 1988/90 Terry brought the business off Ralph

Yes we lived 4 doors away... Her name was Mrs.Payne...she used to rubber stamp her pop bottles and you'd take them back and she would give you your 6d deposit back, the only thing was we used to climb over her back gate and pinch the bottles out of the grates and take them back and get more tanners. She also had one of those phones on the wall that she had to hold the ear piece to her tab and to make a call she had to crank the handle on the side. She was very well off too with afew properties on Haywood Road and she closed the shop every Thursday afternoon and a chauffer took her i -
