  1. The Gateway at Cinderhill, has just been taken over by the Hilton group, it is like a budget Hilton, they are doing some deals at the moment, and it is on the bus route into town or it is next to the tram stop.
  2. Regarding charity shops, I passed 1 in Kimberley today, there is a job advertised in the window for a manager at their Ollerton branch. £15,000 to £18,000 for 37 hours. Not a bad wage, plus the pick of all the bargains.
  3. Doug scott would be a good 1 to be included, his wife was a teacher at Lenton primary, he came into school not long after he came back from climbing Everest, and gave a talk and showed us some of his gear. How many would do that now for free.
  4. I think they have the new cameras installed already, I was travelling southbound last night between j27 and j26 and I saw the 2 flashes on the other side of the carriageway, there is 3 cameras on a pole about a mile or so north of j26. These cameras are not mounted that high up.
  5. They have started to chop the trees down, on Watnall road, ready to start building. If anyone wants to see the airfield now is the time to look.

  8. Father in law drove for Smiths, probably in the 50s or 60s. He was driving tippers when they were building the M1 so possibly they were involved in that. They were located opposite the Newshouse pub on Canal street.
  9. The mother in law worked in the crown during the war, her uncle Joe Lee was the licensee, she walked there and back from Bestwood.
  10. Picture 7, the old police station, looks like it is still there, it is now a hostel at the end of canal street.

  12. There is an article in the NEP today, about a large collection of old transport books being auctioned in Lincoln. Might be of interest to someone on here.

  15. There was a garage on Hucknall road just before Haydn road, I think they were BMC dealers in the late 70s early 80s, I think it was called Teesdale.
  16. I went on the big wheel in the square a few years ago, it is quite gentle, and you get a good view from the top. I took some photos I will find them and post them.
  17. Mad hatters is mentioned in the NEP today, it is relocating to James street, literally just across the road.
  18. They have just demolished the old petrol station, further along Nuthall road, opposite the Gateway hotel, in order to build a drive in KFC.
  19. Benjamin, Richardsons on Lambourne drive became part of the Booker empire. Wifes brother and sister worked there in the 80s.

  21. I would have thought that the space under the square, that was the toilets would have been used for water tanks for the water features. There will still be some form of access for maintenance. And probably a toilet for the nice council maintenance man.

  24. Matlock transport are still going, there lorries always look smart.
  25. It would have been Kennys grandparents that lived on Gainsford. They were moved there from Cherry Orchard. Kenny is still in Australia, they live in Perth, his mother and sister Jacky came over a few years back. The house on Arnold road is occupied by my wifes brother in laws brother Ralph Ramsdale, you will know him.
