  1. On the extract of the map, of the railway, what does M.P and S.P mean, it is probably very obvious but I cant seem to work it out. I have a copy of the old Arnold and Daybrook map from the turn of the century, it is surprising how rural Arnold was it was mostly surrounded by open countryside.
  2. On the map that Cliff ton has shown, Abbey bridge is marked as being roughly opposite where the Johnson arms is now, is this a mistake or was there an earlier bridge of the same name. This would be a bridge over the leen, and the other Abbey bridge is over the railway line.
  3. There is a road on the Lenton industrial estate called the Midway, so that is possibly where the name has come from, I always thought that it was a strange name for a road.
  4. I passed this today, and it looks like they have covered some of the concrete panels in brass and copper sheets. With all the metal thefts that are happening at the moment I cant see it looking complete for long.
  5. Theres a short article in the Evening post about Berni inns, it is quite interesting. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Welcome-haute-cuisine-Berni-boys-brought-dining/story-14018997-detail/story.html
  6. Just been past the Park Tavern, the demolition contractors are attaching warning notices to the fencing, so it looks like it will be knocked down very soon.
  7. Start a new topic, i look every day but only contribute if i know, or think i know about the topic.
  8. Castle boulevard or Lenton boulevard
  9. Went down the embankment today, the toll bridge pub has been demolished.
  10. Yes, the Derby telegraph is part of the same group. I wonder how long it will be before the price of the Evening post rises due to the extra transport costs.
  11. Not only have they made a mess of the website, they have now decided to make the paper available from 07.00 in the morning, this means that they have had to move the printing to Birmingham, so much for an evening paper, it will all be yesterdays news.
  12. The plaque has been put on the side of the old mill, where littlebro said.
  13. The aerial photo of Aspley is excellent, in the fields to the right of Aspley lane was a small settlement of a few houses called Cherry Orchard, that is where the father in law was brought up, it is shown on some old maps. I think it might have belonged to Aspley Hall, It probably went when they built the offices at Chalfont Drive. He would have been living there ine the 30s, when the photo was taken
  14. They are unveiling a plaque in Beeston today, on the house that he used to live in before his death. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/Myths-buried-plaque-honours-giant-boxing/story-13529112-detail/story.html
  15. I mean the building that is in the centre of the photo, it looks like a school. as for the garage I used it a lot but can't remember the name.
  16. What was the building, that is now frank keys. The petrol station that was also built there had a name can anyone remember this,
  17. Although a new build it was built on the site of the old arrow, which was not an old pub really. I doubt if there is a proper answer to the original question.
  18. My bet is the Limekiln at Bulwell, the Goose Fair was also quite new, probably had the shortest span of being open, the Goose at Gamston, and the Corn mill at Chilwell are also quite new, in fact the Corn Mill is probably more recent than the Limekiln. I was at Derby today, and on getting to the end of Raynesway, where the road goes to the right to follow the Derby ring road, they have altered all of the road layout and you now turn left at the end of Raynesway and loop around to join the original ring road, and as I went left in the middle of the loop is a brand new pub, a Marstons I think a
  19. Wetherspoons have started to build a pub in Stapleford on the site of the old health centre, there was a pub opposite this but it closed and was demolished about 5 years ago, and some offices built. There is also a pub in Stapleford that has been closed for a while, the Feathers on church street, it seems strange for Wetherspoons to actually build a pub as most of there pubs have been conversions of existing buildings. Now the million dollar question, what was the last pub built in Nottingham from the ground up? I don't know the answer, but i'm sure someone on here will
  20. The Star on Nottingham road is being turned into, an Arabic cafe.
  21. Regarding the 2 filling stations, being opposite each other, sadly there is only the 1 left. Along Mansfield road from Sherwood there was just past Woodthorpe drive 1 on right side the 1 where Frank keys is on Mansfield road Where Nottingham vw is at junction of Oxclose lane, used to be hammonds I seem to remember 1 on the right hand side at Redhill I am not sure if the Shell station at Redhill is closed as well. I suppose once supermarkets started selling fuel the smaller retailers could'nt cope
  22. Vale motors was on the same side as the vale pub, probably where they got the name from. At about the same time Comet had a repair place at the back in an old brick building, that is when thay actually fixed things. They had a shop there in the 80s, but I think it is a carpet shop now, they are on the small retail park opposite.
  23. I remember there was a filling station on that side of the road in the 80s, Ithink there was also a place that dealt in 3 wheelers at roughly the same spot. Vale motors or something similar.
