The pub that was next to tesco at top valley was the royal hunt, nearly all the pubs in Bestwood and Top valley have all closed, the nearest 1 being the oxclose on oxclose lane, or the park tavern on arnold road. 6. hi, katyjay you mentioned that you lived on cheltenham street my wifes grandparents lived on that street during and after the war, the house was demolished in the 70s there is a picture of the house on picture the past. i think the grandfather had a wedding car and did some outings i was told they were the only on the street with a car at the time. the family name is foster, they were quite a large family and all lived in basford and bulwell. the house was also used as a lodgings house around about the same time.
  7. I passed this today and they have a large sign outside saying that it will be open soon as the Gurkha kitchen, serving Nepalese and Indian cuisine. And offering the true taste of Nepal. This must be the first offering of Nepalese food locally.
  8. The Bombay Brasserie in Beeston is now a Chinese Restaurant, there is now 3 Chinese Restaurants within 100 metres of each other, all at this end of Beeston there is none at the Chilwell end at all.
  9. The riley elf was a posh mini, as well as the wolsley hornet. The posh hillman imp was a sunbeam stiletto. Any of them cars in good nick would be worth a few bob nowadays
  10. It looks like the end of the road for the Barleycorn on Nuthall road, looks like the demolition guys are in. It has been closed for a long time, wonder what will be built on the space? The Red Lion a bit further down Nuthall road was demolished about 2 years ago, the site is now owned by Basford Hall college, but is still derelict. Went passed the Borlace Warren about half ten last night, it looked to be open, but for how long. Canning Circus seems to get more derelict every month.
  11. It looks like it is going to be a bed shop, as there is a notice, regarding recruiting staff on the wall, on the Porchester road side of the pub/ So another 1 bites the dust.
  12. the a380 is on a tour of the uk it was at edinburgh airport over the weekend, i cant find out any more details about where it is going next, but it was mentioned on the bbc scotland website.
  13. any songs that you add to i tunes on your computer stay there, but when you connect your ipod it will automatically load them onto your ipod, but you can tell it to only upload certain songs i dont know how to select this. i have had an ipod for about 5 years and sometimes in itunes it says that it cant find a certain track but when i go to play it it is there, this is my only gripe with itunes
  14. The pub going down to the Hogs Head is the Gate, there is also a gate in Kimberley.
  15. Tesco have finally got planning for there store in Beeston, another eyesore that we dont need. There will be 3 large tesco stores within 5 miles of each other. There is also a Tesco express at Chilwell and 1 at Abbey Bridge.
  16. somerfields in Beeston is going to be a Morrisons, this store has also been changed around a lot. Although the new Lidl on Wollaton road opens next month so it seems like there will be too many shops and not enough customers.
  17. Somerfields has now gone it is now a Spar, not any old Spar but a Eurospar, first one I have seen, although I dont know what the difference is. Between the various companies that have had that shop they must have all spent a fortune on refurbing it as they have all gutted it and put all new shelving and fridges in. What a waste.
  18. This has always had me wondering, I worked for 10 years for a large metal recycling firm, they had metal from all over the world in all shapes and sizes, and from every source imaginable, but I have never ever seen any brass or zinc from a crematorium, even in the melted down state. And as for using a magnetic source to find any remnants this would only work on ferrous metals, brass, copper or zinc being non magnetic.
  19. I took a few photos yesterday, from moorbridge lane at Stapleford, the train was going very fast, I have never used photobucket before so it will be a case of trial and error.
  20. Looks like the end of the road for this building, due to a major fire last night!
