  1. I got these yesterday from the mother in law, her brother is on one of the photos. Not sure of the year, but he was born in 1952, so I would say early 60s. This is a staff photo.
  2. Thanks for the suggestions, I manage to paste the link. When I did the reply it was on separate lines, on pasting the link it has put the link, on the same line as the text. Something else I will have to sort out. I had to tick the box that enables HTML
  3. This is the article from NEP. http://www.nottinghampost.com/plans-early-housing-estates-builders-running/story-18663371-detail/story.html
  4. The computer is windows 8. I just use internet explorer for browsing.
  5. I have tried control and V, it is still the same. When I highlight the address it copies ok. When I click paste in the reply box, it seems to go through the motions, but nothing appears. It is a link from NEP, and I have done them before. I am copying the link from the address bar.
  6. For some reason I am not able to post a link to a website, I am on windows 8, and have never really had a problem before, I struggled a couple of times and Catfan told me to move the cursor down a couple of lines before pasting, this worked but now doesn't. Any suggestions.
  7. I struggle with driving in that part of town, I think it will all be pedestrianized soon in order to keep the students safe. I have driven down Shakespeare street, at about midnight, when there is something going on at Trent uni, not a pretty sight, I have also seen the same sort of behaviour in Nottingham uni.
  8. Part of Dryden street is still there, and still has the cobbles.
  9. I think the photo, is quite a bit earlier than 1936, as there is no sign of the Bestwood estate being built, as the wifes grandparents moved into a house on Gainsford crescent in 1939. There is also an article in the NEP that mentions houses on Edwards lane estate being occupied in 1927.
  10. Going past Basford Hall college today, I noticed that the old buildings have been demolished, I presume that this is due to the new building being finished. I also noticed today that the steelwork is nearly finished for the new KFC on Nuthall road.
  11. Lenton times is a website about lenton, they have a few articles about spring close.
  12. Alan Goodband, passed away in December, there was an article in the NEP, about him.
  13. Father in law finished his working life at Stirlands, he was the shunter in Boots. I have seen the mother in law today and she has shown me a book about Stirlands, it is not a very posh book, it is a4 sized and almost like a home printed book. It is an excellent read for anyone that was concerned with Stirlands. There are lots of old photos, and old receipts, there is a copy of when the owner bought a new Jag. The Jag was purchased from Cottee and Edwards, on Castle boulevard, I have not heard of this place before.
  14. #18 the University are building a new building, next to the rose and crown. The building used to be a lorry dealership, I think it was ford and slater. They have also just bought Lenton Lodge, the original gatehouse to Wollaton park. I would think that the University will be planning on buying Players bonded warehouse, as soon as it is vacant. The universitys plan is to own all of Triumph road and then turn it into a pedestrianized area centred around the Jubilee campus.
  15. Looking at the map in #206 there is a Soudan terrace, there is now a Soudan drive in roughly the same place, any idea why the name Soudan is used?
  16. #26, regarding Hunting aviation, when I worked for Mcintyres I was sent to a warehouse, I think it was on Trent lane at Castle donington, to sort out all of their surplus spares, all of it was going for scrap, there was dozens of propellors, lots of instruments and engine parts. Everything was labelled and was still useable. The poor storeman was nearly in tears, seeing it all being scrapped. Probably worth a fortune to collectors now, there was skips of it, it would have been about 1995. At other times I was sent to East midlands airport, to cut up some parts, I think they would have been so
  17. I only use photobucket, to put images on here. I find it a very slow process.
  18. Thanks for the photos, I will show the mother in law them tomorrow, you would have thought that there would be more photos of it, with it being such a prominent building.
  19. Anyone got a decent photo of the chapel that was demolished, on main street, it was at or near where the bus station is now. I think it was a Methodist one. Wifes granddad was the caretaker there, her mum can still remember going there with him, late 30s early 40s.
  20. #4 the building is still there, it is now offices.
  21. The red cross building was, used as a education establishment for kids that had behaviour issues, they had a small car workshop that was used for training kids about cars. The building was flooded a couple of years ago, something to do with the work on the tram, and has been closed since. I did a first aid course there about 37 years ago with the scouts, and again about 20 years ago from work.
  22. I lived on Kings Meadow Road in the early 70s, it was next door to a chip shop, roughly at the end of Hawthorn street.
  23. I have a map on my computer, I think I got it from this site.
  24. #25 Stapleford fire station is still there, I went past it this morning.
  25. I have put a short clip on youtube nearly 6 minutes long. There is some footage of old buses, possibly in Bulwell. https://youtu.be/cHfbZFzMkBs?t=1s
