They ought to have had as every year there appears to be record numbers of higher grade passes. All that I do know is that there are a lot of younger people out there who are extremely poor spellers and can't do simple maths.

There is quite a lot of poor spelling and grammar on this site, including this thread.

Yes ducky I was at FFGS two years above you. Peter Tulley was in your year along with Haggis, Lesley Harrison and Jeanette Casterton. The shop you referred to was Gilberts.

BTW I also played guitar (badly) in a folk group with a lad and his sister that used to practise in High Church St church hall. Ring any bells?

Okay so I know who you are now. Why does everyone need a pseudonym?

  3. You have a very good memory ducky! I do remember this now you've mentioned it.  I also recognise the name Peter Tulley.  Did you go to Forest Fields Grammar School?  The shop on the corner of Berridge Road and Stanley Road belonged to the family of someone in my year.

  4. The Bohemian Coffee Bar, Fletcher Gate

The Bohemian was slightly before my time but Spike Woods has posted about it on this site.  I only vaguely knew Anne Briggs... I particularly remember her from a higgle at Blackmires Farm in Northants.  She has a truly wonderful voice and took no shit!  Someone told me once she used to live in Lenton Abbey, but she had left a good while before I met her. She lives in Scotland now.

  5. Does anybody remember the late 70s outfit Gaffa? We used to go down the Imperial on a Thursday night and watch them. It cost 50p to get in, and your hand would be stamped so you could get out to the toilet and back in again! And (God help us) we walked back down Alfreton Road and Hartley Road to my house on the Ainsley estate.

Gaffa are playing tonight at Nottm Contemporary

  6. I've envied people moving to Bristol. what do you want from Nottingham? what music do you like?. which uni is your girlfriend going to? Lenton is good place to live for Nottingham Uni (between campus and town). Lots of things that were good about nottm have been destroyed by local council, but there's still plenty of music venues, sometimes markets in the square, the Lakeside theatre and gallery.

  7. Does anyone remember Colmans Dance Hall in Maypole Yard? It was run by Enid and Aubrey Colman. Fantasic weekends were spent there. We used to nip in next door to the Crystal Palace for a drink. Also the Palais de Dance and the Laccano were very good around the same time.50s and 60s The Palais in those days used to have dancing at lunch times.

I used to go to Colmans on Friday nights when I was 14, must have been 1966. Used to go the Palais sometimes around that time. I remember my boyfriend dragging me on to the stage to propose (there must have been a prize of some sort)

  8. Pat, Carol, did I know you I wonder??

She was called Beattie yes. We used to sit looking out of the big top window at the cinema across Market Street (what was it called? showed late night horror movies). Sometimes about 40 people round one table - I think the staff were extremely reasonable considering!

The downstairs one on King Street was where Zizzi's is - explains the very large subterranean type layout. The decor was very early 60's, all brown with ceramic decorative tiles. A very arty coffee bar was the L shaped room on Goldsmith Street. It would be right in the middle of Trent Campus if it were still there. It was very handy for the walk down from the Girls' High.

Do you remember 'cosmic Ray' who used to signal to the spaceships with his cigarettes?
