  4. Always knew G S Oscroft as simply Oscroft's, Mr Oscrofts full name was Garnet Scotton Oscroft
  5. Morkel & Carnill closed in 1978 but were by that time part of Mann Egerton as was FW Mitchell. Both companies were formally wound up in 1979. The site was later taken over by Beechdale Saab. The image is from the mid-1960's - due to the skeletal type Shell sign. By 1969 the Shell signs had a red background. Note: Lambert House, the old DVLA office isn't built.

  19. The was always a level of security but I recall being driven through the Depot in the 50's & 60's and camping on the land above the secure area but still in the Depot jurisdiction. The IRA threat put paid to the camping and since the Depot has been 'very secure'. At a time the USA rented a space resulting in protest marches etc.
