  5. Yes, Roundhill does have a lot of land but the part between Glebe Street and Willoughby's bodyshop has mainly been set aside and not used, we called it the 'wasteland'. Remember, the site also had the wooden infant school adjacent to the footpath. The school appeared in Auf Weideresen Pet as Jimmy Nails sons school. The current Sainsbury site was the old fire station, you should be able tomake out the garage, tower and they had 2 or 3 properties as mess rooms/HQ. The newer buildings on the north of Albion Street is the Beeston & Stapleford Works Department - state of the art but short
  6. Hi Fynger, My IT techy suggests: Go to Windows update, review update history. See if you have downloaded an update for a programme you do not have. Apparently, Windows Installer may be trying to update a file that does not exist and whilst doing so it will stall and prevent you from other installing/updating as installer only allows one session at a time. If you have downloaded something you do not need, stop the installer and delete the update using add/remove programme. If this does not work, go down the pub! Happy Christmas
  7. Hi, Here is an aerial shot of Beeston showing the incomplete Beeston Square development with the only part finished multi-storey car park. Taken around 1970 I'd guess. You can see the old fire station on Stoney Street as well as the new fire station on Station Road - soon to be demolished for the new one at the Hassocks.
  8. Hi Trebby, There was a Daykin's Yard. between Barker Gate and Woolpack Lane. Lots of back to back properties and yards.

  11. Hi Beefsteak, It was 28th August 1994 - she had just been redelivered from refit, absolutely gleaming. The plane behind at take-off was a Tupolev - a bit like a Moskvic following a Bentley.
  12. It's a long clip but well worth it. She is in New York now, bet she does not look so grand. Fynger, if I'd known you were piloting it I'd have waved back!

  14. You are perhaps thinking of the Bond Equippe series based on the Triump Herald/Spitfire & Vitesse?
  15. Hi, The Bond Bug was based on the Reliant Regal, the engine was at the front (just behind the front wheel and at the side of the driver's legs). The engine was Reliant's own lightweight 700cc four cylinder. I think the rear axle was BMC. Rear alloy wheels were Dunlop, the front wheel was steel.

  18. Hi, The Acer is fine - when it works, however there are a couple of snags (though our machine is 2 years old and new ones may differ.Worth asking the retailer). Problem 1: The power jack is in the rear and can be jarred causing motherboard damage. Problem 2: Acer package XP to their own style losing out on some of the XP features. Not sure what they do with Vista. I have a colleague with a Dell and his only gripe is the cost of calling their support team.
  19. Yes, I was more than a little dissappointed that the bridge did not appear. Just goes to show what we take for granted. Question, what is out there now that we should be imaging/recording now? In 40 years time someone may appreciate it! Bip, your non-playing disc may not be beyond redemption. I have recovered damaged software using freeware recovery tools.
  20. A short cine film showing the construction of the Beeston Station Road bridge and Town Street Bramcote on a snowy December 1968. True Nottstalgia! Beeston railway bridge (under construction) & Town Street Bramcote, 1968
  21. Basford RDC merged with Beeston and Stapleford UDC & Eastwood to become Broxtowe Borough in 1974. Rock House was for a short time the housing HQ. The first Broxtowe CEO was Albert Hodder from Basford RDC. Also from Basford was Jim Shanaghan as Dir of Housing and John Saxton as Dir of Finance. John later moved to be CEO of Rushcliffe. I will try and come up with a replacement puzzle.

  23. Hi Avocet, The Kwik Fit depot is in Stapleford, the old Saxon Cross garage. The house next door with the crescent shaped porch is called Norton House. Both are still there today. !!
