  1. I want to try and find a load of friends from Cottesmore school in the 1950's. Is it ok if I use their names? And where do I put the topic? not very computer literate as I haven't been on the site for a long time,so be gentle with me!! Regards to all.
  2. Request for help from another forum. Does anybody know the name of the Paper and stationery manufacturer which was located on Radcliffe Road Nottingham back around 1968. Thanks for any replies
  3. Certainly remember those houses Radfordred. In the 40's and 50's they were desirable residences in good nick. Used to pass them every day going to Cottesmore school. Is that the Savoy in the background? Cheers all
  4. Thanks for all your replies. The picture answers my question. I thought though that it moved well after 1953 because it was there when I started my drinking in about 1955. Just down from the Griffin and Spalding store was a lovely hotel I think called the Black Boy with pillars at the entrance. It all looked rather grand from the outside. As a working class kid I had no hope of seeing the inside. Knocked down or converted years ago. I wonder if anyone got any of the furnishings from the place.
  5. RadfordRed if you see this! It's going to take a long time to go through all these photo's. My grandmother used to live in a street near the junction with Hartley Road and Foster Street. Now I believe knocked down as the houses were all built around the turn of 1900 Your picture of the gun shop and the pub took me back a long long way. David
  6. Thanks Mick point taken. But as I said, age creeping up bl...y fast! One thinks ones question is the first. Gimme some leeway seri/serry/cerri/cerry D
  7. In a post earlier I talked about the 50's cinema's. As you approached the square down Maid Marian way near those two cinemas there was a statue of Queen Vic. Anyone know what happened to it? A thought at the back of my head says it was moved to the arboretum.
  8. Hi Beefy Born in Wollaton Park. Joined army in 57, left 86, now living in south of France. Language - zilch! Regards
  9. Newbie David here. Just wondering what has happened to all the cinema's. I know that most of them have long disappeared but I thought I would ask which ones are still around. The ones I used to visit were Elite, Savoy, Gaumont, Windsor. Now my memory is losing it! The one in Market street, the News Theatre just down the road from the Co-op, the one on Milton street opposite Victoria station (because they showed some gauche type French films!), I think there were two nearly next door to each other in the square. One in Aspley and Basford. Oh and the flea pit called the Ikeston Road on guess
  10. Newbie here A bit late but someone asked where certain trolley buses ended. The 39 initially ended up right next to the 45 on Middleton Boulevard, but them moved to the MB/Wollaton road junction near the Co-op and shops. 39 via Ilkeston Road and the 45 via Derby road.
  11. Morning everyone. I have been looking for yonks for this sort of site for Nottingham. At last found you! Born 19!! in Wollaton Park. Did a couple of jobs after leaving Cottesmore school and just before joining the army did a year at Victoria railway station. Moved to France in 2006 to join son and his family. Language skills - zero! Look forward to taking part in anything on the site and of course trying to meet up with old friends from all those years ago. Cheers David
