Hi - I'm one of the admins for the St Ann's Well Road Pre Demolition (1970) facebook group. Over time I have been building extensive website which https://stannswellroad.weebly.com/
which:
Aims to capture the 'essence' of the facebook group St Ann's Well Road Pre Demolition (1970) Online Community Nottingham
- Preserves our collective memories
- Provides a 'gateway' to the facebook group for new members
- Provides a more permanent archive of images/discussions
- Provides easy access to topics from the group via the index and 'search' facilityOne of our most popular pages is the 'virtual walk' along St Anns Well Rd circa 1956 https://stannswellroad.weebly.com/virtual-walk.html
Cheers
Mavis

A Reunion is being planned for the 80th anniversary of the founding of the school this year. All enquiries can be directed to me.

SAVED: VICTORIA LEISURE CENTRE'S HISTORIC TOWER
Not many of you will remember the brilliant band leader,Cyril Stapleton(from the 40`s and 50`s) who attended there. As I have said before Nottingham has produced some pretty brilliant folk, counterbalanced I suppose by the likes of our present clown, Jon Collins!
That's a name from the past = Cyril Stapleton. I recall my mum saying that she went to school with him - and how he had become famous through his music.

I seem to remember the name Leatherland but not in the context you spoke off. Any chance there were members of the Leatherland family in the Ransom Rd, Coppice Rd, St Anns Well Rd area back in the 1950's?

Thank you for the welcome.... Happy New Year to you also.

Mavis I attended the Blue Bell Hill school until 1951. As this is fairly close to your school I wonder if the Mr. Clarke you mentioned may have transferred as the 2 schools were fairly close. Which area did you live in,and where are you in Australia?
It could well be the same Mr Clarke. He was a nice teacher. I recall him making up stories for us about a talking white dog, and teaching music - percussion.
I lived on St Anns Well Rd opposite Westminster Street - not far from the school which was on the corner of Duncombe St and St Anns
I am now living in the hills outside of Perth Western Australia

Hi - I lived in Stapleford 1964 - 1965 - on Toton Lane - I noticed many changes on my last trip back to UK. Also developing an interest in Nottingham history generally since beginning to climb the family tree.
-
Wondering if anyone out there also went to St Ann's Board School., I was there 1949 - 1954 or thereabouts. Mr Salt was the headmaster, and Miss Brown one of the senior teachers. Also Mr Clarke.
I believe the design of the building was based on that of a boat, and was built around 1900. It disappeared in the clearances in the 1970's

Enjoying the holiday break between Christmas and New Year, very much enjoyed browsing the Christmas' past forum. Many memories evoked.! Just here to introduce myself.

I remember having some stuff called "Betta Builder" which worked like Lego but wasn't compatible with it.White building bricks, roofs similar to thay Bayco stuff which was what prompted the memory recall!
Someone was on about pork pie for Xmas day brekkie; me old man always had this (Pork Farms of course)and insited it was traditional. Never come across it outside Notts though.
I used to live on St Anns Well Road near Bramleys the pork butcher, and pork pie was always for tea on a Friday night. At Christmas time there was always a large one ordered specially. Now living in Australia I made a point of making pork pies for several years running - and they were always popular especially with english friends here. Had a go at doing just one this Christmas and it has almost gone.
