  2. Don't think that was it.... the 'school house'(which I am sure it was) .... if it was this gatehouse is that still there and what did it look like?
  3. Is it still there or has it been pulled down? Wereabouts is Vernon road? don't know bullwell too well... only main road through past the 'bogs'.
  4. For all you bullwellites, does anyone recall an old school house there? Some old family friends used to have this old school house, converted for living sometime in late 70's, poss early 80s.... it was haunted... this was told by young toddlers at the time. They left Nottingham and lost touch years ago and I cannot remember where it was exactly but believe it may have been knocked down.... any memories anyone??? Also may well have been on a main road????
  5. So glad today that I am not back in Nottingham with all that snow (hate it) it has been nice today - balmy 25 degrees...... if I want to see any snow - I can ski inside emirates mall at 'ski dubai' real snow there...only been once and that was cold enough for 45 mins!!!
  6. Yesterday made the most of laying out on deckbed in the sun as in a couple of months time, bck to diving from one a/c unit to another!
  7. I only remember the yellow plastic bags - not THAT old! Although motif looks the same I think!
  8. Dubai has the most sand!Apparently ITV thursday night 9pm is showing Piers Morgan in Dubai!
  9. My 11 year old daughter laughs at photos of my old eyebrows - jet black and I am naturally very blonde, although throughout that time I was various colours
  10. Sammys wan't a very big place if memory is correct and there were a lot of wall mirrors I think..... yes rock city was good in its time... also liked 'the garage' in the late 80s...mind you nearly broke your neck on the different stairways!!! Have tons of photos of this time!
  11. Rock city ladies toilets... or should I say mens too!!! Hairspray borrowing was the worst!!
  12. Have to feel sorry for pete burns really- nobody deserves ending with a face like that! As you are from Loughborough... can you remember a club that had a 'alternative night' which I used to go to on a monday night in around 1985? I'm sure that the name was 'sams'?
  13. Bazzer, you were right that part of the asylum building wa at the top of dakeyne street - this was called the dakeyne street lads club before it was boys brigade. King edward park is the gardens and grounds of the old asylum. Went on a good web site a few minutes ago called nottingham civiv society that went into great detail about all of bath street and around
  14. Baz, 'Bonds children/child went to my secondary school early 80s.... I remember it had a fairly good reputation then....... were both shops open at same time?
  15. I am sure that there is an old map of the lunatic asylum - I lived on St Chads road for a few years as a child - hence the interest..... I cannot remember whether the asylum was where st chads, and rest of roads going up to spalding were built on the old grounds or actually were king edward park is now. The asylum wasn't there after early 1900s. Does anyone have this old map? Incidentially Bazzer, did the Bonds butcher owner also have a shop on Carlton hill? I also remember playing on this great park - went back for a look see a few years ago sadly didn't feel the same.
  16. The asylum was where king edwards park is now I believe..
  17. Not sure, but I remember buying real hair pony tail pieces from debenhams wig dept., splitting them apart and weaving them in, sealing with super glue.... had the fibre ones done once at another salon for a small fortune... had to use fabric conditioner to manage to comb them.... YUK...... This was 20 odd years ago.... and luckily hair extensions have moved on!!!!!
  18. I too had Jade shoes - still had some thigh leather boots from there up until recently - kept them for a laugh as well as a bin liner full of other rock city outfits.... didnt want to part with them for a long time as they cost me a small fortune then..... sadly they had to go!!!
  19. I remember this vicar, as a young child of 7 in mid 70s.... always noticed he stank strange- obviously it was alcohol !!!!! The church of st. stephens is a high church of scotland - which I feel has a service not disimilar to a catholic church.... I remember school friends having their confirmation done there, dressed up in "wedding dresses". Last time I saw this area (long time) the vicarage was boarded up and run down. It was a very large and nice looking house in its time
  20. Today here it is a 'cool' 22 degrees.... have relatives visiting over xmas and they are going back to Nottm on Friday.... they have been full of the doom and gloom of the UK. Here, the circumstances of the 'global crisis' have also had an effect, but luckily not personally. No I cannot say that I am missing Nottm - 'specially now it is winter there..... but maybe I'll feel different in May when the temp here goes back up to the 40s, and 50s in June!!!!!! Much rather sweat than shiver though!!!!
