  1. I too was born in 1967 - I can't remember boys very well [after all it was 20 odd years ago] so what is Chris's surname? I too didn't like Mr Mason - he really fancied himself - not helped by some silly girls in my year fancying him, in fact one girl was nannying for him after school. I had Mr Banford as my french teacher when I was doing o level french and yes he was so bad most of us got put back into cses - and funnily enough the one girl who did do well was half spanish [pretty similar language]. I went on a french exchange with him [not that we bothered learning much french during our tim
  2. I wonder if I can remember your younger brother? What was his name? I remember a Richard France who lived down that end of Cavendish road [opposite the cemetry] He was in my best mates brothers year possibly left 1981? Mr Arram was an absolute nutter for a history teacher - so was Mr. Stray - he used to flick us with a elastic band. Do you remember the Markilles[french teachers]? I really hated that school and couldn't wait to leave. Best thing that was to happen was for it to burn down.... You should see the league tables [absolute crap] I think it got worse when they shut Manvers down and e
  3. You're older than me - I did't leave until 1984. What house were you in ? I was in wollaton. How did you rate the school? Was Mr Arram there when you were - the mad history teacher? As you looked over the forum I lived right on the brow of one of those hills across [second ave] and what hills they are in carlton....We nearly bought a house on Cavendish road about 13 years ago. It was right next to a small factory unit [called rolls I believe] the house was almost at turning point of school road. In the end we decided not to as at the back was some sort of kids home!!! What end did you live a
  4. As you kow Carlton so well Beefsteak - is this where you grew up? I lived off Carlton Hill [second ave - on the hill part] from 1976- 1984. So which secondary school did you go to? Was it posh Carlton le willows or was it Frank Wheldon? Mine was Frank Wheldon which I have to add is worse now than it was when I was there [pretty dire even then].
  5. My husband swears that he saw terrapins in the arbouretum pond a couple of years back
  6. Tonight have to sit through a Bugsy Malone show by daughters school [2nd night in a row]
  7. Not exactly a nottingham topic But - have just seen the above movie at showcase and have to say I thought it was brilliant.
  8. Just been there tonight in the founders hall [daughters school play was there - hollygirt] what a lovely building - even the new Harry Djangogly building next to it is in keeping. When you think of all the nice old buildings that they pull down its good to see this one still up
  9. Had a discussion with my uncle [dads brother] who lived at one time on Forest Grove off Colville street sometime in the 50s. He seems to think that the building that is the boys high school on Forest Road was a army barracks at one time. But I thought that the boys high school had always been in the building that it is in now. Can anyone enlighten me?
  10. 3 weeks left here. You wouldn't believe the quotes I've had - from £1.900 - £3.700. You can guess which I'm having... Worst is , husbands going in a week and its all left for me to deal with - flamin typical. Still at least I won't forget anything!!!!!!
  11. Does anyone remember when whimpy was more of a resteraunt than it is today? Hope I'M remembering the right place, but every Saturday lunchtime when I was about 5 [1972] on Clumber Street was a whimpy and then I'm sure you were served by a properly uniformed waitress and good quality china. I always had for dessert a chocolate nut sundae..Am I remembering the right place or am I getting mixed up with Swiss Cottage [ please remind me where abouts this place was?}
  12. Bernis at the time were far better than Beefeaters and brewers fayre [which in my opinion are flamin' crap]
  13. Does anyone remember the small indian resteraunt that was on the back road from Clumber street ? On the corner is the Thirland hotel. The indian was a few shops down opposite old Nat west bank? I remember being in this place for a curry one night possibly in 1986, the place was quite full when all of a sudden a plate of curry came flying across the room and skimmed our table, smashed up the wall and left curry across at least 3 other tables - this was thrown by some women. I was livid because the waitors did nothing and neither did anyone else, I was indignant about paying for the meal as it w
  14. Have to say out of all music genres I cannot abide motown!!!!!!!!
  15. I reckon Nonsuch was in a smaller shop next door first? As I remember it being a smaller shop before it moved into Flannels. The first shop had a downstairs as well. This must've been about 1981.. My best friend had all her bedroom done out from there [with a couple of those paper parasols hanging from the ceiling] I was really envious at the time I was about 12 then
  16. What time was this? I wonder if my dad was there then?
  17. Hi, don't remember any eye ointment!! When I was about 6 I had measles and was really ill which left me with a slightly lazy eye [grew out of it at about 10] so I had to keep going for checks at the eye hospitol to see if I needed glasses but it did correct itself and got discharged after quite a few appointments. I remember having quite a few dresses from the shop at one time - this was the time when there was no chain stores for kids
  18. Does anyone remember a childrens clothes shop on Derby road on a corner roud from the playhouse? It is now a sandwhich shop/ deli. Not sure how long it was there but I do remember going there a few times on route to my dentist which was up the ropewalk. I also visited the eye hospitol somewhere up ther.
  19. Yes I'd forgotten that place as well... I bought a pampous chair from there - it was a cane type with a round padded cushion that sat in it. Do you remember I think it was called 'nonsuch' it was quite a small shop but had oriental stuff in there. Myself and best mate when we were teenagers spent loads of time and money in there - it was on bridlesmith gate Flanels side, not sure where exactly it was?
  20. Good lord I'd forgotten about that place. Where in the vic centre was it? Does anyone remember juicy lucy upstairs? It was a cafe- a family friend ran the place and the kitchen for it was quite a way from the place....
  21. I am shocked as to how it looks from the above photograph. I have never been through the gates, only across Forest road at the top.Mind you there are a few skeletons on the opposite side of the cemetry [only these are the living variety and on the street corners and are a pain in the butt when o the school run]
  22. As I go by this every weekday does anyone know much about it? It is crammed full and some headstones look very old and ornate... Is it still being used? Depressing I know!!!
