Not sure on the bitter but I read guinness is out there.... but alcohol is heavily taxed along with pork [sin] and if you are a resident you need a licence to buy it from a liquor store, or buy as normal in hotels. As for greenery I have seen pictures that there are very green parks etc [ not plastic] with man made lakes etc. My husband will be involved with a man made canal way which is being put in just for the hell of it [nothing to do with transporting things] It really is La La land!! And then of

  8. Whatever happened to this gym? It was down hockley in late 80s. It was full of muscle building men [before gyms became popular. I worked upstairs for a while in the barbers in maybe 1986. If memory serves me well I think it was on Broadway. I left Nottingham early 90s for a few years and it must have gone in that time. Me and my friend used to laugh at these guys who spent there whole day in the place and we used to say 'give me a skinny man anyday' this they really hated.

We never had it but my gran did at one tim. That and big pink veined slabs of soap at school... its all coming back to me

  12. Good for you... I gave them up 3 years ago and apart from one drunken slip up [which I failed to remember -friend reminded me] haven't touched one since. It wasn't easy at first but if you REALLY want to stop you can. O nly trouble is from being a little size 10 I am now in a 14 and hate it. So I guess smoking has its good points! To be honest I feel no fitter [praps due to weight gain] . But my dad died at 61, smoked all his life and died from a brain bleed which they say is possibly from hardened arteries due to smoking - I have no intention of dying in my 60s!!!!

The then dj was a guy called Jonathon.. I went to see quite a lot of bands, my hero at the time was gene loves jezebel and managed to sneak back stage to them once. I also remember seeing Hawkwind, the place was like a fog that night and I'm not talking about the dry ice!!!When I first went down there it was very Sisters of mercy then became very glam rock [my fav. time] In about 1987 we would alternate between rock ci

Can anyoe remember the girl who hd a huge lump of a wig on her head? She had it for years and frequented Rock city a lot. She had heavy black make- up round her eyes, an actual masterpiece in artistry. I used to see her fully made up at 7.30 in the morning. This thing on her head started out as a hairpiece that got gluey and gluey and was on her head for years. I did see her again perhaps 5 years ago and it has now gone nd been replace with pink pieces that looked like rabbits ears BIZZARRE!!! Anyhow I think her name is Nicola and she spoke very posh.....

There was one who had a long 'white' beard , a huge pot belly [always exposed] And the other clearly wanted to be a woman, quite tall and slim with straggly long hair. I used to see the 'santa' one all the time over a long period and then he just dissappeared.
  24. Can anyone remember a hair salon that was on Wheeler gate? This salon was upstairs and from what I remember was next to where the large book shop [waterstones] was. I worked here for a brief time [and hated it] and cannot for the life of me remember its name. This was in mid 80s
