  1. pete use to go brit on a friday, boat or union sunday...worked in the hippo in 1971 when i was a student....never ask a lady her age but i bet you can guess!!!!!
  2. pete..i remember the sundays at the beachcomber..and going round to the broadway for a snog!.......on pilcher gate there was a late cafe called the belvedere....can anyone remember that.....the dungeon was easier to get into because there was no bar ( i think) happy days in the life of a mod...................

  4. the beachcomber was a fantastic club attached to the Ad lib......( can anyone remember Gwen the manager ).....Jimmy Hendrix, Jimmy Cliff and Jimmy James were the acts to see at the beachcomber......what about the cool cat bar.............................the place is now the lizard lounge Pete
  5. i saw zoot money at the dungeon in 1966...also at the beachcomber and the twisted wheel in Manchester..great times
  6. there are so many of us another club would be great.....agree the steps maybe too steep for some but hey what a challenge! ask jean starr...i bet she's up for it..we could have all the old djs back from the 70's and 80's and stanna them down!!!!!!!!!

  9. keith simmons owned Pickwicks on Parliament street...think Gordon Long owned image boutique ( now fat face clothes) on St Peter's gate...........what about a syndicate to buy the old hippo club!!!!!!!!!!

  11. use to drive a mg midget in the early 70's no seat belts, leaking roof and a baby seat wedge in back next to a radio playing pirate music!

  13. it was the hippo in the early 70's, then it became camelot before the powell family changed the name back in the early 90's ( my eldest son had his 21st there)...then it became the Bomb...would someone buy it for me and we could take off from where we left...happy times

  17. Gordon Long owned the hippo club...think he lived at Keyworth but can't remember his daughters name. It was such a great place to work and i would love to get some of the old crowd together again. can you remember Alex the DJ who also worked sandpipers
  18. sounds like you are in for a good evening...use to go to the old arriba, and went a few years back to the new one....am quite enjoying the motown northern soul nights that are springing up around notts
  19. started my club life with the dungeon where great acts like steam packet( long john, rod stewart, Julie driscoll) lead me to see Jimmy Cliff ,..Jimmmy James and the great Jimmy Hendrix at the beachcomber. Friday and Sunday nights were spent in the Brit, Boat and the Union clubs at Trent bridge. We all use to gather outside Saxones and get the bus down Arkwright street, past Selectadisc .The pigalle, colemans, flying horse,bodega and many more places would take mer down the nostalgic route...i then left nottingham for a student life in Manchester where i worked some of the best clubs in England

  21. i worked at the hippo club in 1971..Tony was the manager, Gordon long the owner and Alex Smith the DJ ( he also worked sandpipers club on broadway)...the crowd was great and Brian the doorman kept everyone in check...what happened to everyone from the summer of 71?...come on guys, i feel a reunion coming on !!!!
