  1. I believe that failing the safeguarding aspect of an inspection is considered so vital that it will ‘overrule’ the good and or adequate areas and render the whole inspection as inadequate with the opportunity to monitor and address with prompt follow up inspections. Equating to your GCSE example is it not like seeking a university place to study science and passing 9 but failing science.
  2. With long name file support is it necessary to abbreviate? If you’re aware of possible confusion NottmCC and NottsCC seem pretty straightforward to me.
  3. The main reason I go into the City is to get some use out of my Bromley House membership. I used it an awful lot a few years back when I was doing a heritage lottery funded project on my grandfathers WW1 letters home but rarely use it now. I’ve considered cancelling but like to support it and also it’s handy when Janes shopping. When I said park at Thurarton Phil, I meant up near the hairdressers and catch the bus to town opposite the Red Lion. I fell out with the hairdressers a while back when I parked outside and they asked me to move as it was where their customers park. I put them right
  4. Isn’t that what Israel are doing. Would UN involvement be different. How would they go about it. Sadly easier said than done.
  5. I recently went to Chester to collect a sewing machine and was impressed that I could get the train half a mile from my door direct to Crew and then one change to Chester. Trains clean, on time and cheap although I do have a discount card. I’m served by the same village bus 3 days a week as you Phil. I’ve used it outward bound a few times but never got the return. It stops 20 yards from my door. If I’m going to Nottingham using the bus, which I used to quite often I will drive to Southwell or sometimes Thurgarton where I leave the car and get the 26 service which are reasonably frequent.
  6. Sorry Col but my view on this is far more black and white. If their arrival isn’t legal then by definition they are illegal immigrants. No shades of grey. If they do have a valid case for coming here (and let’s not kid our self’s, many don’t) then they should use the legal route and if that proves difficult, hard, impossible (delete as applicable) then I don’t see this as a valid reason to flaunt the law and enter illegally.
  7. Because you’re not prepared to accept it, doesn’t make them legal. I’d accept the facts you mention as mitigation but nothing more. If you desire something, really really want it but you can’t afford is it okay then to steal it?
  8. It is an area I know very well and worked there for over 7 years. 30 years ago it was rife with crack houses, drugs and street prostitution, not a place you would want to live or frequent unless you had to. There were numerous perfectly decent nice people living there, particularly towards the Mapperley Road end but in general very undesirable. The internet has rid it of much of the street vice and I’m well out of touch with the area now although I still pass through quite often having friends and relatives in Radford and Hyson Green. The old adage, location location location comes to mind and
  9. Yesterday while in Southwell about 10am, I noticed a lad waiting at the bus stop. I kid you not he was wearing shorts, a tee shirt and flip flops. I was freezing in my heavy coat, hat and gloves. I was going to take a photo but it seemed intrusive. He seemed perfectly happy on his phone. I’ll admit to being nesh but it was freezing.
  10. Here is another Berridge class photo. Jill has researched and will comment on the details below. I knocked around in later years with one of the boys pictured here and worked alongside another in the same job.
  11. Having spent 3 miserable years of my life attending Forest Fields Grammar I maybe should have recognised this. I’d put money on it be being FFGS. In fact the shelter where the children are under may still be there, now modified with sides. The attached photo is from street view and I’ve drawn an arrow showing the direction where I believe the photographer was looking. The main Forest Field building is behind the trees.
  12. Jill has been sent this which was said to be taken at Berridge in 1910. However looking at the building in the background it does not seem to fit in with being at Berridge. Any ideas?
  13. Waitrose Newark checked today and they have no stock. In fact they said they don’t sell it.
  14. It’s an interesting thought but I’m unconvinced. They should have included them and I’m sure the vast majority will agree.
  15. It is reported that at the AGM of the National Trust it was revealed that the calendar for volunteers shows dates for Eid and Diwali but non for Christian festivals, Christmas and Easter prompting calls that the trust has become too woke. If this is the case I have to concur that this is ridiculous. We are long time members of the NT and I am aware that they have previously got themselves in a bit of a lather as many of the grand houses they look after have historical connections with slavery.
  16. Suella Braverman sacked. Next PM?
  17. Harvest suppers and come the new year plough Sunday is still a rural tradition around here. We used to go to the harvest supper in the church hall which has recently been sold with planning consent to convert to a house. I used to love Plough Sunday when lots of Morris dancing and folk musicians descended on the local pub yards from my door. I think there was a disagreement of some sort and such celebrations moved to a pub in Southwell.
  18. Yes. There was a serious blaze not so long ago in a similar location in some sort of waste/recycling centre.
  19. My wife is a regular at Waitrose Newark. If you want a bottle of Sandermans I can pick one up as I’m often in Giltbrook with my daughter in law.
  20. In fairness it was I that accosted Ms Jackson but Carol that came to me. Later she approached again and for a brief moment I thought she was asking if I’d like to go out with her. Allas she was merely asking the way out. Jane says she probably asked you where the loo was because she thought you were the cleaner. Cruel.
  21. There was a quite big Waitrose in Wollaton/Strelley which closed a year or two ago. It was formally a CoOp but now a Lidl or Aldi. Can’t recall which.
  22. It was over 25 years ago now but she was breathtakingly beautiful. A real stunner. Much much nicer than I thought she would be. She came to me, chose me from the dozens she could have and whispered sweetly “can you tell me where the little girls room is”. I can still feel the warmth of her breath on my face and the scent of her perfume as she slipped away. In answer Phil, you bet I did.
  23. Not sure you’re referring to me in this comment but not from me. I met Ms Vorderman briefly when I worked at the BBC. She was/is lovely and can do no wrong in my eyes. The beeb as the countries national broadcaster should preserve an unbiased stance, something they haven’t always achieved although the left will claim right wing bias and visa versa. I believe that Lineker did briefly have a refugee living with him, but a rather well to do one. Can’t recall the details.
