  1. Strange food the old Blewitts/bluelegs/bluebuttons....The places to find them are either shrouded in secrecy by those that love them...or folks have never ever heard of them....and I've met pensioners in many a pub who have never come across them in their lives. They have a strange texture not always appreciated by mushroom eaters...but I would think most enthusiasts I've chatted to about them agree that you have to have them with bacon to bring out the best taste. I've found field blewitts the size of a dinner plate in the past...according to some that would make them worth about ten quid
  2. Two places where field Blewitts grew the size of dinner plates a few years back. Thoresby market in the small copses of trees where traders went for a pee cos they charged to use the loos... Nobody picked 'em in there. Down Hoveringham way near the sailing club....ancient meadows where they grew enormous....but no longer now Tarmac have turned the meadows into lakes. And my most amazing find years ago when for some strange reason for one season only a stubble field near Lambley was a mass of blueys....I filled carrier bags full....but they never came back. You'll always find some of the woo
  3. You mixed up?....I remember 'Rubberneck'....Kinder....miserable strict maths teacher.
  4. I've commented on Green before I think on an Ellis thread. The man was a moron who only ruled by bullying. Hadrill, the headmaster before would come out of his office and just stand there if a group of boys were being noisy. The boys showed him their respect by immediately going quietly about their business. That's what you call discipline....not dragging boys into the office for a thrashing. Even the school teddy boy hardmen had respect for Hadrill, and they generally hated authority in any shape or form.
  5. OP calls it a lane...not very accurate for a yard or an arcade really. Mention of Singer makes me think Hurts Yard though.
  6. All the crap over for another year?....and no I haven't had a happy Xmas I was in A/E for most of it....Roll on spring.
  7. There are a few of Stockhill and surroundings what you lookin' for?
  8. That's me then...Got rushed into hospital 3 days ago with nobody to call on to feed my dogs and birds...I phoned a local aquaintance and he told me not to worry he'd call round and look after them. What the hell I would have done without him I daren't think.Just got out a couple of hours ago.

On my own with my dogs as usual...won't see a soul...and my Telly just conked...Ho Ho Ho....
  10. Pity the huge egg collection is hidden away..but I suppose you can't encourage the kids nowadays...Mind you most bird losses over the last fifty years are down to agriculture, not kids bird nesting.
  11. I wouldn't exactly have said wooden...his characters in Zulu,Get Carter and Alfie came across well enough...but some of his other films over the years have been atrocious...not unlike Albert Finney. And certainly no more wooden than Richard Burton in Cleopatra.
  12. I don't remember anything about it so obviously not important to me...Kennedy and Moon landings yes, every detail.
  13. Schindlers list....the musical.
  14. That's cheap....mine was £184 last year...£228 this. I phoned 'em and managed to get £20 off. But as the guy said, the 6% premium tax has been increased by the soddin' chancellor up to 9 -1/2%....raising over a billion for the treasury to waste on wars and windmills. Tax Tax Tax...this ruddy country...they charged me around £20 VAT to have my old faithful companion dog killed this week....bas*****!
  15. I had a brother die from burns in the 1930s after playing with a box of matches....aged two....In the days of inflammable nighties. And yet in the early fifties we used to clip these candle holders all over the tree and light them. How my parents allowed this God only knows!!
  16. I'd like to know where the bloke walking the dog is going...You can't take them in a cafe or a shop and they're not allowed on trams..maybe he's gonna bath it in a water feature.
  17. I have two utility marked woollen blankets that my Mother left me...both in perfect condition and used nightly when I was a sprog in my freezing cold bedroom.Incredible quality compared to nowadays.
  18. My second plumber turned up on time, sorted out the boilers' problem in minutes online to Baxi...bought the part locally...fitted and tested Then balanced and bled all radiators. Hour and a half later £100 richer (him not me) He's happy.....I'm sorted, and warm again. NOW WHY COULDN'T THE FIRST DICK'EAD DO THAT?
  19. DJ360 Thanks for all that info...and in the future if mine conks out in a similar manner... I'LL RING YOU
  20. Great if you're the handy type..not all are. I have no experience with the building trade so wouldn't attempt most of those jobs....and of course gas work is a big no no nowadays anyway. But to be fair it's got to be each to their own...I have made things that others would find impossible without years of experience, but wouldn't expect the transplant surgeon down the road to be able to match my skills or me his.
  21. Phoned a plumber last Thursday...boiler playing up. Said he'd come 9am next morning. Arrived on the dot spent half hour stripping the boiler and found the faulty bit...."I'll get one and see you Monday...no problem" Monday comes...no plumber...phoned him and got answerphone. "Hiya Paul here, have you got the bit? give me a bell please!" Monday afternoon...not a peep...Phoned again early evening...answerphone. Next morning...answerphone..."Hiya Paul again...any news for me.....Nothing! Two more calls made...no answer. I've phoned another plumber...said he will call tomorrow. Now the first on
