All well & good tackling brakes..................BUT, having worked in the motor trade years ago I saw some right horrors where the DIY man had a go. On some cars lever the caliper pistons back & they will be destroyed. Once saw a new subframe fitted to a Mini, all fine, could'nt fault it EXCEPT he had replaced the steel brake pipes with plastic petrol pipe secured with jubilee hose clips !AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRHHHHHHHH. The bloke was quite miffed when it failed the MOT. By all means if you are capable DIYer then have a go but hey, lets be careful out there ! One further note of cautio

Henry Mellors had fairs there quite often, I remember taking my kids there late 70s early 80s.

Near Thurgarton. Used to visit the pub there, the Star & Garter. My old boss had a caravan down there & he also had a speedboat so they could water ski on the trent. Don't know if it's still there though, going back over 40 years !

They say the venom from a king cobra (one bite) is enough to kill 40 people. Who in their right mind would want to keep such reptiles ? These reptiles should be in their own habitat, not in a bloke's kitchen over Eastwood way. Condolences to his family. -

My ex brother in law worked at Coop House late seventies in the menswear department. One day he was showing leather coats to a Jamaican fella, the fella tries it on for size & promptly legged it out of the store. Following night ex bil is out on a date & is walking through slab square & see's said Jamaican wearing nice full length leather coat. Five yards away are two big policeman ! After a quick word with them said jamaican is arrested & carted off to central police station a label was still attached to the inside of the coat. A few weeks later ex bil gets £5 voucher from -

So what about the worst Fish & Chip shops ? Was in town yesterday with the missus & used to call in at a greek chippy on Stoney Street ( The Lace Market Fish Bar ) Called in yesterday & was met by a "Divvi" looking wench, no Greeks about, must have changed hands since our last visit, couple of years or so ago. This was the absolute worst fish & chips I have ever had. The meal was served on a small tray, only a handful of chips & a spoon of mushy peas on them. The fish looked anaemic & when cut I could see why, the fish being undercooked almost raw in places, I swear

On school or private property the Headteacher can request you to stop taking photo's. On anywhere public you can tell em all to get stuffed, but you don't need me to tell you that !! How many parents do yo see with a camera phone or Point & Shoot camera at the school sports day or Xmas Nativity play etc ? MANY. Yes, this is the work of the PC brigade yet again. In a lot of peoples eyes a man with a DSLR is a Peedo. I AM NOT FOR ONE MOMENT IMPLYING ANYTHING AGAINST YOU Beefy !!!! I know some people who have given up photography because of the grief they got, I was escorted out of Vic Cente

No ! Also have a Panasonic LX2, used as a second camera but lately used more often than not as the main camera. To be honest I could'nt be A***D to carry a DSLR with a telephoto lens around all day anymore. We were down the Norfolk coast the other week & I had the LX2 with me, realised then this was the way to go ! Last week I bought a LX5, very nice !

Tesco & Sainsbury's take over the world
catfan replied to Cliff Ton's topic in General Chat about Nottingham
So do you think Tesco have not done their homework ? Course the have. If there wasn't a need then they would not build. I don't see many Tesco stores closing. Millions of shoppers use Tesco every week for their shopping, they can't all be wrong. -
Tesco & Sainsbury's take over the world
catfan replied to Cliff Ton's topic in General Chat about Nottingham
Well I'm sorry if you took offence arkwright. That comment was certainly not meant to be "Racist" in any way. As Beefsteak pointed out nowadays accepted in normal language. Like your continued reference to "they", why not just say "our Asian friends" instead.! Example, corner shop, english owned, twenty fags £6.72, our asian friends shop, £6.85 for the same product. Not a vast amount I know but it all adds up. Anyway, as they say "you pays your money & takes your choice". -
Tesco & Sainsbury's take over the world
catfan replied to Cliff Ton's topic in General Chat about Nottingham
Yes, but these were derelict sites. At least Tesco/Sainsbury are regenerating the space AND giving the local people what they want, a cheap modern shop as opposed to a robbing overpriced pakki shop. Interestingly, the site next to the Savoy Cinema has been derelict for years. -
My mate who lives in the village reckons the kitchens at the hall are a bit dodgy, ie MICE !
