  1. Rog, Not sure yet, trying to persuade my daughter to come for a look, she would sooner go shopping with her friends, can't understand why.....................
  2. There used to be signs on the A17 at Beckingham, just as it goes into a short dual carriageway, warning of gunfire noise.Never heard any myself though but you could see red warning flags from time to time.
  3. Yes,when you first mentioned that way back it got me looking along the A1,but I looked north of Newark towards Retford. I think there is or used to be a military firing range very close, next to the A17. I must have driven past the main entrance to Woodcote..sorry..Barnby dozens of times. That bit of the A17 is quite dark even in the summer with the tall trees along both sides and the A17 is a fairly horrible road, busy and a lot of people drive like idiots on it so you have to keep you wits about you.I have noticed the entrance before but not the lodge,I thought it was something to do with the
  4. Rog, Might bump into you then, going to have a look myself sometime this weekend, got to drop the wife off at her sister in Clifton first. Probably both end up getting arrested !. Bamber, excellent work with the TV people,do you have TV industry connections ? you did well to find the phone numbers etc of some of the people involved with Boon.I knew you'd find Woodcote today, just because I was away at work all day !. I still can't believe it is so close to where I live, after years of wondering, just goes to show what can be done with the help of good people like yourselves.
  5. I plead guilty but with mitigating circumstances !.....lead astray by red herrings on other websites and the other locations used in Boon !!.
  6. Does anyone really want another to solve ? or has anybody else got a good local mystery that needs cracking ?
  7. Well, what can I say ?.Firstly, well done to everyone for a brilliant piece of detective work. I can't believe it is at Barnby, only 10 miles from where I live !,in fact I drove within about 3 miles of it less than two hours ago !. I have travelled right across Lincolnshire today and I was going to put a post up that I had seen several very similiar houses and perhaps it could be somewhere in the Trent Valley between Newark,Gainsborough and Lincoln !.I looked on Google earth around Coddington a few weeks ago but didn't look any further east. The house doesn't seem to have changed much in 20 y
  8. Sounds very promising Bamber. Received another nice reply from a local historian..... 'Paul You have my deepest sympathies trying to locate this house! I spent a couple of hours yesterday morning trying to find it on google maps and maps.live.com. I also searched through my collection of old photographs of houses around Nottingham but drew a complete blank! Looking at the photos you've posted it does seem to be set in its own parkland and I can't see any sign of a village or church nearby so that should narrow down the options. The landscape also seems fairly flat so that should dismiss m
  9. Location managers................... Eddie Mares , Peter Chadwick
  10. My thoughts exactly.I will try to post any additional names tomorrow morning.
  11. I will have look through the production credits on the rest of the Woodcote episodes. Avocet
  12. Den, Yes I've noticed that one before,East Stoke Hall, but I don't think it is Woodcote. Similar style and age though,I think it even has odd pieces of the metal fence like at Woodcote,so we could be looking at the right side of Nottingham.
  13. I reckon we have just jumped a lot closer than ever now. If the owner of the house had racehorses on the premises perhaps thats why he wasn't too keen on everyone knowing where it was. But who is EDDY ????.
  14. Beefsteak, Thats just what we used to think !,we couldn't believe some of the questions.'Route from Beeston/Arnold/Calverton etc. to Skegness' were regulars. We wondered if it was just to fill space when they didn't have any real questions.
  15. I agree, there seems to be something increasingly odd about all of this.Did everyone involved with Woodcote have a clause in their contracts never to divulge the location ?.We seem to get really close to the answer and then get knocked almost back to square one.Woodcote must be within 30 or 40 miles of where I am sat now but it might as well be on the moon !. Got a few more production credits, this time from the episode 'Arms and the Dog' ; Location manager......Rae Yuille Local casting......Maxine Williams Assistant Cameraman......Stephen Symes Sound Assistant......Ricky Telford 1st Assis
  16. One reply received from a local history group....... 'Hello , Not in East Leake or the immediate vicinity, sorry Tony.'
  17. Don't know about Radio Nottingham, but the Nottingham Evening Post used to answer readers questions once a week,I think a woman did it but I can't remember her name.I did email the Post months ago about Woodcote and Boon and asked if they still answered readers questions but I have never received a reply.I think I might try again seeing as there is all of the interest on this forum to back me up and try to get a plug in for nottstalgia.com !.
  18. Bamber, thats a good piece of info,we need that sort of response so we can narrow the search area down, shame he couldn't be more specific. I've had no replies from local history groups yet.
  19. Bamber, Yes the Polo pitch is adjacent to Woodcote,it is directly opposite the main door, across a lawn from the small parking area at the front. As to whether it is a real pitch,I don't know, but I'm am more inclined to think it is just a field masquerading as one. I know the Polo club you mentioned at Oakham,it is in the village of Langham.Their pitch is just an open field next to some fairly modern houses on the edge of the village. I take your point about including local aspects into the storyline,Polo doesn't seem that widespread and is an unusual storyline. It is in the Polo episode tha
  20. I was wondering ,what could the house be nowadays and would it help the search. A few ideas; A private home ? Care home/retirement home/nursing home ? A real hotel ? Flats/apartments ? Head office for some business ? Offices/council offices etc. ? Training centre ? Private school ? Health Spa ? Religious type retreat ? or more disturbingly,empty/derelict/demolished or burnt down ?.Or perhaps the most obvious....top secret TV location ?.
  21. Like it. Hey,I might be sad but I ain't old ! !jumping!
  22. Rog, Thanks for your kind words.Yes,must have been a Terrier or something in a past life.Finding Woodcote seemed easy at first, you know, just look at a map and there it would be.Can't believe how wrong that idea turned out to be !.The harder it is becoming to find makes me more determined than ever, not going to let this 'bone' go !.To be honest when I first posted my question I thought you would all think it was a bit daft and not be interested, look how wrong I was about that too.I really appreciate the all of the hard work and interest all the decent members of this forum have shown so far,I'
  23. Ah !,nearly an answer,at least he was decent enough to reply.Lets hope the location manager can help,if he can't I don't know who can. Been looking around the Dukeries, couple of promising locations ,near Retford and Worksop, but again no.
  24. What a brilliant way of describing it,'like looking tor Turpitz' !.Its beyond belief how difficult it has become, still, soon be an expert on the Stately homes of the East Midlands !.
  25. Sounds promising (hopefully) Baz,seems about the best reply any of us has had so far anyway.
