I'm with you Limey. My wife has just got over an operation to remove a lump from her breast, which turned out to be cancer, after radiotherapy I am please to say that she has been completely cured - they obviously found it in time, but I know that there are countless thousands who are diagnosed and are not so lucky as my wife has been. Although I sympathise with Jade Goody in the fact that she has cancer I do think she is jumping on the band wagon to get money for her kids, very comendable but what about the thousands who can't do that and 'just get on with it'! It wasn'tso long ago that she was being slated for being a racist on big brother!!!!

The bronze which is used for making VCs is from a gun captured in the Crimean war. Apparently there is only enough to make a further 80 VCs. This is kept in vault at Bicester which is looked after by the RLC (Royal Logistic Corps).

Hi Baz
Welcome to this great site. I am also into Rock and Roll (stood the test of time) I used to know Rockin Ray very well, he used to play at the 'Jolly Farmers' at Ruddington for a couple of years. I've also seen him at the Talbot (Yates). What preference do you have to singers - I'm, as everyone on here will probably tell you, into Mr Elvis Aaron Presley.
Keep on Rockin!

Did you hear about the man who bought his wife a wooden leg for Christmas - It wasn't the main present it was just the stocking filler!

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New year to one and all!
Don't lets forget those who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and those in the emergency services who are working today.
Peace to you all.

Good LP choice Lynmee.
My first record was Lonnie Donegan singing 'Jump Down turn Around Pick A Bale of Cotton'
Does anyone remember the 'Embassy label' from Woolies, covers of the days hits but by unheard of artistes.

Heard this one on Radio Nottingham this morning - plagerist!

I recall as a young boy standing in the 'OLD' Market Square and listening to the many people who would get up on the walls and talk about anything at all. Very entertaining, thats what democracy is all about, being able to talk freely about almost anything, something which I fear we are losing with the OTT PC Brigade!

I remember about 30 years ago using a watering hole called 'The Mechanics Arms' on Alfred Street North. It was I believe, the only Davenports House in Nottingham. Used to be run by a dear old couple called Ron and Beatty. a good open mike sing song on a Friday and Saturday night. I believe it became an Irish bar after that though I don't know what it is now!

Don't know whether this has been mentioned, yesterday (20 Sep) was the 50th anniversary of the Vulcan crash at RAF Syston when 7 people were killed. I was there as a lad of 10 years with my dad.

Used to know him well in my motor bike days. The 'saints' were the sworn enemy of the 'aces'!

You definately would not have got Buddy Holly, Bazzer, but if it wasn't for the fact that Col Tom Parker was an illegal immigrant to the USA, and therefore, couldn't leave, you may well have got the King who definately did want to tour the World!

Would 'Cupe' be Mick Cupid, brother Brian Cupid of the Saints motor bike club, hailed from Clifton?

I go to rock and roll events at Hemsby, which has two events a year lasting about 5 days each. People come from all over Europe with 1950 Coup de Villes and the like. Every one dresses for the event, 'Ted Suits etc' Many groups from Europe and the States. It used to be held at Pontins but I think they got a bit greedy, so it's now held in another holiday camp just across the road.

Mick, Thanks for that - bloody brilliant! and as you quite rightly say, the English Elvis.
-
Just a gentle reminder to those who care - Elvis died today in 1977, but still lives in many many hearts acrioss the world. RIP Elvis!

Thanks for that - it's me having a senior moment!!!!!

Looks a fairly modern car to me, possibly too modern to fit with the Drury Hill theory, I thought Drury Hill was knocked down 20+ years ago!
-
Possibly Frank, but 'Widdowson's' has just come to me!
-
On the edge of said car park I think I can recall a large engineering factory, what was it's name anyone? Also I think the area outside woolies was where the 'Fountain' was.
