  1. yea nice one thanks craig it's been a while since i was on the radio, i think the last time i was with graham neale on trent,do you still dj?? ive been a tad busy working with black knight music promotions in loughborough more to do with local and unsigned bands and trying to get something off the ground up there but with it being a university town when they go on holiday you can see more life on a tramps vest than in the town. yea i got a big write up in the notts post as well and you can see that here www.myspace.com/metal_micky.

ive been trying to get radio nottm to let me do a rock show but i gotta keep at them me thinks.

so wat you up to then? i think the last time i saw you was at a car boot in sandiacre was it? and you wanted some singles coz you had left all yours at radio trent, and talking of records, kev and paul who used to run arcade records was a regular customer of mine when i did the record fairs in nottm ,blimy sorry my life story here lol take care

  2. on about old rock venues or similar things well most people know that i was the rock jock at the palais but thats another story ,i remember seeing sassafrass (too many s's i think) at clarendon collage with barry foster's wheels, then the week after i saw gong and some other band then i saw the sensational alex harvey band with the heavy metal kids at notts university and then to round off the year i went so see a band called home and supporting them at the last minute was judas priest and didn't keith white drum for dawn trader or abk? sorry if i'm being boring

  3. i cant remember when i left cottesmore school but i do recall the woodwork teacher was a mr leitch,i think the girls head misstress was a miss mats, neil highfield/doug scott took P.E and mr anderson took geog,mr camden was art/pottery and i was a biscuit monitor (as they were known then) and i used to live in lenton near the white hart pub (now closed)

  4. i only knew one penny that went out with greggo coz i had my own life to worry about lol and the last i heard of him he was with the rather large chested lea walker.

well radfordred they normally have a reunion every bank hol monday at the sal but i dont think they had one last year here is the proper site if you aint already seen it http://www.geocities.com/nottinghamrockmemories/ they have forums and a few more pics

  5. yes mariag i remember sleeze patrol very well in fact i have a single on vinyl by them somewhere in my collection, i dont know where punky wayne is now but if anyone remembers "deuce" another "sleeze" band simon ward the bass player owns the intake club in mansfield cos iv'e not long finished djing there.

the guy who used to work for alan hayes (big baz) as he was called i think his name was barry bloom and he ran the sal as well as the hearty good fellow

  6. Regency Club Greyhound Street ? is that near the market sq just off king & queen st? if thats the one alan hayes (mardi gras, arriba(spelling soz) owner) ran a club around there called the " colourwheel" and i'm sure there was a shop just down from the club what sold all types of goth gear,we had all sorts of band there like "the hunters club" "bomb party" and crazyhead plus others what i cant remember.

    oh happy days lol

  7. that the guy thanks radfordred i knew his name wasnt reid but thats the only name i could get im my head.

yea beefsteak i remember Martin he was that tall short fella,i think the last i heard of him he was not very well.

and no beefsteak i still cant remember you from the mardi sorry, but one day my head might kick in to gear

  8. well mick2me i wasn't sure if his second name was reid but the terry reid you might be thinking of was a top class singer,i think he sang blues (but i might be wrong) i have some of his stuff.

as i said terry who used to dj at the town arms used to dress up in all sorts of gear and he used to fill in for ray on a sunday,so if anyone can tell me terry's second name just out of curiosity's sake

well apparently the pub has been shut for a year or two (so i was told) not wishing to be or sound disrespectful to the followers of the islamic faith but it needs to be a pub/function room, people came from all over on a sunday and i think that needs to be preserved,

i can understand that present times are tight and people cant go and do stuff like they used to but the town arms was an icon and deserves better (that's my opinion)

  9. well mariag i was there during the 80's sometime, and yes there was a dj on most nights but i didnt go there on a fri or sat coz i had my own thing at the palais, the sunday nights ray robinson used to get the lads Vs the girls in singing meatloaf's "paradise by the dashboard light" oh wat fun.

the vid you are thinking about beefsteak is "gimmie, gimmie good lovin" by HELIX and for some reason most people liked that version i played lol, but i dont know what happened to ray after the town arms or the mardi gras

dave willans was the landlord for a time there and his brother steve willans ran or still does the sportsman on trent bridge

  10. well i was traveling over trent bridge yesterday and was saddend because the pub was all boarded up, well i had many a happy time djing there as well as having a few drinks there (ahem) and i bet there is a few of us left who can remember the sunday nights with ray robinson/terry reid(i think) big al on tuesdays johnny moore on thursdays, myself ,shep and glen hobster (ross)

many a happy sunday my mate pete and myself used to go round with a vid cam taking shot of people we even went in the ladies toilet once and got slapped lol.

in todays living we would have never been allowed to do this (i blame the nanny state were in) it was good clean fun and no one cared because it was fun.

i remenber the back room used to be a wooden building where gaffa was the band of the day

i wonder who or what or if will try to reopen it as a venue or will it fall into the hands of the developers? i hope not because for a lot of us we grew up with that venue as a fun pub/entertainment room, shame if it goes

  11. F**k me i'm famous ha ha yeah mr rob t i remember you we had some wild nights there especially that night i got a thump if you remember oh what fun i hope you are well and beefsteak i cant remember you sorry,i can remember things about the mardi as if it was yesterday but somethings i cant.

i had a breakdown a while back and somethings are just returning to me, as i said in a previous post about the mardi gras andy now works as the dj at the intake in mansfield and rich lives way out in cumbria i think.

if you want to see the mardi gras go here http://www.cherryred.co.uk/other/cherryredtv/music.htm

click the punk tab and find the exploited rock & roll outlaws/sexual favours it was recorded live at the mardi and you have got lady di on backing vocals and we all remember hendrix from the sic boy federation

i have been trying to get back into the clubs in notts because i wanted to bring the rock back to where i started it,dont forget i have been djing now for 38 or so years i started at school when i was 13/14 i have tons of vinyl and over a terrabyte of mp3's so any club owners/managers who fancy putting on an ageing rock jock i'm free any day except fridays and we can discuss terms

hi zab i worked with most of the NWOBHM bands at the boat and had the pleasure of working with diamond head again when i was at the intake the only original member is brian tatler but they are fekkin awesome now, i re met the tygers of pan tang rob weir is the only one left, the highlight of the intake was when we got hardcore superstar from sweden wickid, the last band i worked with at the intake was fightstar and they were good

the bands i liked at the boat were quartz, whitespirit and limelight, magnum and saxon, def leppard were superb,i think i should write a book "confessions of a rock dj"

p.s yes beefsteak i remember alison coz i went out with her for a while while i think about it anyone that used to go to warrow's/boat club/palais or the mardi gras please get in touch oh i did zhivago's as well but i got the sack from there coz i played some macc lads and they didnt like it

    blimy dont i waffle

    regards

    mm (the fat one)

  13. i think brian selby still owns selectadisc and i know jim is still there, when it used to be near the theatre royal i can remember the "be stiff tour" all came in to do a signing but apart from that everything else is a blur but i did get some cracking records from there, same as when virgin records opened up they caused havoc by putting up the never mind the bo***cks poster in the window yeah good times

  14. the only blog i do now is on my space if i put too many blogs around people will think i'm a big head (well i am) as a few of you might know i did start at warrow's wine bar, and then i did the nottingham boat club (middle of the 3) and i rememember, def leppard there i think rick allen was 15,iron maiden, saxon, and loads of others but my highlight was when i gigged with robert plant and the honeydrippers, simon and davo took over after i left ,then i went on to the palais and kicked ass over there ,i gave the rock scene in notts a head start coz soon after you had vern with steam machine at the imperial (st james st) and confusion (john) at the yorker but i think he did the imperial as well, after the palais shut rock city started and i went to the mardi gras i did a few years there and met a load of fine bands and people,i did some work with the P.A firm there (rich and andy) them the mardi shut and i got a day job working as maintanence electrician for a 300 room hotel and 18 years later after 3 marriges and 3 divorces 2 kids i went back on the road and worked as rock jock for the intake in mansfield which is owend by simon ward ex bass player from deuce (remember them) and i (re)met up with andy from the mardi gras,i finished there and i'm currently doing every friday at the doghouse in loughborough trying to do what i believe in and that is bringing the music i love back to the masses, well there's my blog make of it what you will, opinions welcome but nothing rude or insulting

  15. well i'm glad i found this forum, what i'm looking for is any photos of me/bands or just people from the nottingham boat club/palais/mardi gras when i was the dj there during the late 70's early 80's,during various house moves the pics got lost or thrown away,if anyone has any please pm me on here or contact me on www.myspace.com/metal_micky
