  1. It spun me right round when I saw this one !.. he's certainly overdone it with the botox this time vicar! Pete Burns.....
  2. That would be mr. AA himself ! went a bit off the rails at one time, and had to be subdued.. nevertheless was good in his day.. ilko..
  3. It came as a shock when Santa fell off the roof that fateful day.. as he lay on the stretcher in the abulance, I happened to notice the tattoos displayed on his arms, they looked uncannily like the ones uncle Percy had on his.. a Zombie rising from the crypt, and a mad axeman poised for the strike, with the words 'Lucy' written underneath.. it was ulikely Santa would own tattoos such as these, and it was then all became clear.. for the last 18 years I had been led up the garden path.. later when I was to ask him about all this, he admitted he was totally addicted to the sherry, and for fear
  4. The chap with the bike is probably the same one as I remember too, he was tall, thick set, and had longish dark hair.. I reckon it was the same man that travelled round Ilkeston, and he might have even lived up here as well.. he'd be well into his late 70s nowadays, but its only a matter of about 5/6 years ago I last saw him walking in the precinct, wearing his old gabardine raincoat and scarf.. always pleasant and well mannered when he came to the door, you felt a bit sorry for him, and would give him a knife or a pair of scissors to be sharpened.. but trying to use the scissors after
  5. Going back to the early fifties, me ode grandad was a 'general dealer' he had a horse and cart very similar to that one in the last picture.. the horse he kept at the back of Skills on Alfreton road, I can see it now, a lovely placid off-white stallion.. I remember once being taken on the cart when I was around 4or5 years old, sitting at the back whilst he did his rounds, the location as I remember being at the top of Mapperly plains, so he must have travelled some during the day.. it was all exciting stuff at the time! ilko.
  6. just got in from doing a spot of xmas shopping yesterday, and restin' me feet, when.. what should I hear outside but a chap bellowing at the top of his voice.. "any rag bone.. aaany rag bone" now I ain't heard this for years, and it took me straigh back to the fifties when the rag and bone man would be a regular visitor to the streets..( any rag bone - goldfish for rags! ) now.. either there's been a massive upsurge in the price of junk, or times have become that desperate that they've had to resort to this.. either way it was very nostalgic! nodoubt if I'd have gone out and offere
  7. I reckon its taken from the top of a tram travelling towards town from Trent Bridge, and is approx 100 or so yards down from the same.. if you look at the 1973 pic below, you'll see several features that match.. the 73 photo starts at the three story building which is on the righthand side on the 28 pic and from there the lamp stands/skyline/street junctions etc start to match, as does the camber of the road.. what do u reckon?
  8. I personally think the parents should complain strongly to whoever is in charge.. its the thin end of the wedge.. we are slowly losing our identity ! ilko
  9. This subject will be dear to many peoples hearts, but if you were to fully say how you feel about it you would be branded a racist. if you happen to go down to the boot sale at Derby cattle market on a sunday morning they're all there.. ninja warriors in their caped hoods, muslims, croatians, iraqis, and masses of the poor asylum seeker bods chanting into their mobiles.. all unable to understand the vendor when he explains the price.. the mechanism is now in place whereby these people have preference over the natives in regard to housing, social benefits, and schooling, but keep shtum,!
  10. It's all very Hazy ! Haz.. I right ? ilko.. (born to sort it !)
  11. With persistent delving and investigation.. cross reference, allied to dogged perserverence, coupled with tenacity to the quest, it transpires that the pub was the... Sawyers Arms.. and yes Woolies was on the corner.. don't think they had always been there though, I seem to recall they expanded around the early 60s to incorporate that corner position.. ilko..
  12. AH SO! My Rover 80 (2088cc) in its day was a kewl machine.. it had a reserve fuel switch on the dashboard, which permanently displayed a red light, indicating low fuel (1970s - 10 bob a gal.).. Word is - that it's still going to this day and worth a mint.. BUT .. whoever has got it can keep it! ilko..
  13. Ah Ah ! - this is Erik The Viking.. the excellent Rover Metro Diesel 14 CD was produced by this guy, capable of 60 mpg, and 100 mph! (it saved me big wedges of dosh did this little baby) the 820i 16 valve was also a product of the same, but alas was a failure.. a shame as it was a lot of car for yer money.. Its the same with all Rovers.. buy em and the part ex is zilch.. but nontheless excellent vehicles! Nowadays its 'shake yer ass' and the Citroen that rule the roost.. (Picasso?) personally I still drive a Rover as there's plenty of spares down at Loomies! Longbridge rulez ..
  14. The Bickley photoshoot.. Alarm bells rang as Jack casually smiled for the camera, knowing full well he'd been clocked, but realising it was nothing more than a wind up.. "you're all cuckoo" he exclaimed. his wife Irene chimed in, "when Ben gets back from Westminster there's going to be a right old ding dong if he finds you lot here!" so they all left asap.. and not before time I might add. ilko..
  15. Thats easy!.. She started out in Lunch Box with the Jerry allen trio during the mid fifties, and later went on to star in Crossroads as Meg Richardson from 64 till 88..

  18. Woa!.. another toughie! .. is it Notts or Derbys? is this related to that free-fall parachuting course you went on over Alvaston by any chance? ilko..
  19. YO Scoots.. what I'd like to know is.. What kind of music does the modern day scooterist listen to, ♪♪ do they have any modern idols, Shania, Brittany, Janet, Kylie maybe ? Or do they still scratch on down to Itchycoo park, or ride the Magic bus with Happy Jack ? B) oh.. and.. do the laces in your desert boots still work loose and wrap around the brake pedal? ilko..
  20. Thats easy.. its an old Stanton and Staveley lamp bracket.. I used to make em years ago! ilko..
  21. Nah.. its not Nipper!.. its Reg Turnpike the local bike thief.. he thought he was on to a winner when he saw the racer parked up at the side of the wall.. Its only when he spotted the photographer, he dropped into the pose of innocent bystander.. behind his back he holds an hacksaw, screwdriver, and a mallet.. as soon as the photographer looks down to reload his camera.. the bike will disappear! :o
  22. Hi Caz.. check out the piccy below.. Ryehill street circa 74.. I remember there was always a heavy waft of beer when walking by the Greyhound pub, and can see em now unloading barrels at the side entrance.. It looks like that chap might have been a local, he ain't in no rush!. and is that the same bike as in the R.Terrace photo by any chance? ilko..
  23. And where exactly did 'Spotty Dog' fit in amongst all this lot? ilko..
