  1. Its a shame its got into that state. Its a peaceful haven to just go and sit. Trouble is, if it gets too run down, people wont want to sit in there, and then it becomes even more run down, and a target for the local hoody-brigade to hang out.
  2. I company I used to work for did civil engineering works, and we were always aware that certain areas may be of "historical value" and we had to factor in extra time/money for roadworks we did around those areas.
  3. I took my daughter for a walk and a bit of a picture taking trip down Trent Embankment (from the toll bridge to Trent Bridge)I was shocked to see the state of the Memorial Gardens, and the bandstand area next to the gardens... Maybe its because its Autumn, or maybe they've just got very neglected I dont know... walking past one gate I thought the gardens were closed, a huge padlock of the gate, and damaged railings didnt help make me think they were open... but we carried on walking to the next gate, yes, we could get in... but I wish we didnt go in. There was industrial fencing around the sta
  4. I jump to conclusions, and push my luck... I often find thats still too much But really, I dont get much time for exercise, I'm still running around playing taxi to my 4 kids... but I did find time to go out on a nice walk along the trentside today
  5. I'm reading a Jackie Collins "trash novel" but I'm also wading through a nerdy "Learn PHP the easy way" (yeah like there is an easy way to learn how to program )
  6. Doh, I thought that this was a thread about the wireless connections for the computer-ma-bobs
  7. I havent been to Goose Fair since my twins were born and we couldnt get a twin pushchair round the fairgrounds. I might go this year, purely to photograph it (will my camera get nicked?) and some mushy peas but to go on the rides... no-way am I paying for those!
  8. First vehicle I owned was an old Honda 125 with flames on the petrol tank...it never started, so I got rid pretty quick! First car I owned was a red ford fiasco... I mean fiesta. I lived in Clifton, worked in Bingham, and the damn thing used to cut-out at the Lings Bar island and the Saxondale Island every bleedin day!
  9. I have to agree with you Mick. I really dont like listening to the female presenters. I used to listen to Trent all the time, but it went through a phase of a Male/Female duo on my way to work and a female on the way home... me no-likey
  10. I remember being at work and someone said that a plane had crashed into the trade center. We didnt believe them as they were "unreliable" with their stories they told. Sure enough it was on the internet news channels for all to see. I still cant watch the clip without feeling something A couple of years ago we were in the US at the anniversary, and that was a strange feeling, and then a couple of weeks ago we took a trip to New York, and ground zero was on the list of places to visit. Seeing the site all this time on, and the amount of land that the trade center buildings stood on, you get
  11. My son came back from a week of Gliding at Syerston, and on one of the days it was too windy to fly they were treated to a trip to one of the air bases. He was really chuffed as he was allowed into the cockpit of a typhoon, and up close to the Battle of Britain flight, and they were not kept behind the barriers of the other aircraft that were currently staying at the base.
  12. Hi Lupo, my mums family went to school around that area. I believe my mum went to St Bernadettes. I'm not sure of the time frames, but I can find out for you.
  13. I drove past Cranwell and Conningsby yesterday (had to pick up my mum for a family member funeral today ), but there was nothing much happening (apart from the normal training exercises at Cranwell) One of these days I'll have to come along with my son to the airfields trips.
  14. I dont use IE at home. Its either FF or Google chrome. I have to use IE at work... unfortunately its IE6, so no tabbed browsing for me... (and no hiding what I'm doing from the bosses either ) I've not heard of many IE problems tho, so would an uninstall/reinstall help (Oh someone please shoot me... I'm beginning to sound like an IT person )
  15. We had our own "little" aviation day whilst in New York. We took a trip to the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid to see the air/sea museum. Was lucky enough to go on Concorde (all right, it was only walking in one door, and out of the other but I can now say I've been "on" Concorde ), and we saw a flight deck of older planes, plus a few others in the below deck hangers... a very interesting day out... when I can figure out if/how to upload directly to this site, I'll post a few pics
  16. Diesel cheaper... yey, about time too Been a diesel car driver for years, and was thinking about going back to petrol cos its cheaper, but not now.... I think I'll just have to buy myself a m/c instead
  17. SO trying to get on the subject of aviation, and didnt want to start a new thread... where was the Vulcan flying this weekend? I was driving back from Skeggy (between Cranwell and Newark) on Sunday afternoon and saw something large and low, with big black smoke coming from the delta wings, I only saw it the once, and was hoping it would come back, but no Did I spot the Vulcan?
  18. Before my son started gliding out of Syerston every weekend, he used to love going to the coast, we often used to see the eurofighter, and the jets that used to fly out of Conningsby (we always travel that way on the off-chance something will be flying in/out ) I'll make sure I have my camera fully charged for the weekend then, thanks for the heads up
  19. well I'm counting the days till I go on my holiday... First time in 18 years its just me and the hubby... and we're off to New York We've packed the kids of to their grans who lives by the coast, so they will be having a holiday too
  20. Some really fantastic photos there... Do tell... what camera/lens?
  21. Its my eldest son who is interested in going to the place (not the other kids) and he's part of a voluntary gliding school every sunday, so that works out quite well. Drove past the place yesterday, but people were going down the entrance...
  22. So you were a few years ahead of me at school (I think). I used to go to Origin when Big Fred did it, but I think yoff was about
  23. Is that the place with the propeller leant up against the tree? Do they fly out towards Skeg for that airshow? I'm over at skeggy next weekend it'd be great to see something other than kites flying
  24. I do worry so much about what could happen when he joins up. But I know its what HE wants, and as such I shouldnt stand in his way. Its a good career, and its meant that throughout his teens he's had something to strive for, and something to aim high for. Once he has done his duty, he'll have a great chance of becoming a pilot for the big commercial airline companies... (yey, cheap holidays )
  25. Thanks everyone for cheering me up. Fortunately, my eldest has ambitions to be an RAF pilot, and is eagerly waiting his results so he can go to their careers office... so thats one less to worry about. My twins are dyslexic, so no uni for them, that will save me a fortune The list above may only affect my daughter
