  1. Our milkman was Ethel ! Who pulled a handcart. They had a dairy in Bramcote Ave, Chilwell. I wish i could remember the surname, i went to Roundhill School with the daughter, Kathleen in the 70's
  2. My mum was at Nether Street school in Beeston in mid 1940s and they learnt to swim at the Lido. She told me they had to break the ice on it in the winter!
  3. They used to sell a kind of cocktail snack/cracker....lobster flavour waffles. I'd give anything to find them again! It was the only place my mum could find german cooked meats like speck in the 1970's. of course now she'd be in her element..so many good delis but at the time Burtons was king
  4. I used to love Burtons. It was such a treat to shop there and at Christmas it was fabulous!
  5. The very thought of Brentford Nylons makes me shudder! My parents had a bright orange quilted bedspread from there. Disgusting
  6. My mum jean snodin(seamer) worked all her life at Ericcsons, then Plessey. Her sister Eunice and sister in law Iris also worked there. Anyone remember thrm?
  7. Most of my dad's family, the Snodins were framework knitters, mostly in ruddington, calverton and brinsley. Me grandma thrn worked in Barlows sock factory in Beeston
  8. My first boyfriend worked in Rob's Record Mart. Is it still going?
  9. Coventry Airport closed down suddenly just before Christmas. Previously there were holiday flights into and out of Coventry but I believe these ceased over the summer. I think about 70 people lost their jobs just before xmas
  10. I seem to remember! Thankfully i rarely venture into the city centre - after working there for 2 years that was enough. Cov must have the highest rate of mental illness and bad teeth in the country
  11. Is that the house that has an underground tunnel to the Crown Inn?
  12. Our 9 yr old Springer spaniel is getting a bit grumpy now as he's got arthritis in two legs, but show him a bit of snow and he's a different dog! He loves to run along shoveling his nose through it and jumping to chase snowballs. Our newish Patterdale terrier doesn't seem to notice whether it's snowed or not, she just runs..and runs....and runs..
  13. Many moons ago an old aunt of mine ran the QE
  14. supermarket shopping..7pm tonight or 7am tomorrow? dilemma!

  15. did either of you two know my brother Martin Snodin (Snod)? He now lives in Sussex. He would have been at Bramcote from about 1965 to 1971/2?
