  1. 9th February, 2012 'Pensioner's Special' at the 'Broadway' cinema: £4 entrance to see the film (drink of tea and biscuits included) I was sitting down at the front of the cinema yesterday afternoon - enjoying my cup of tea and jammy dodger - when I recognised the music playing as Otis Redding singing 'Mr Pitiful'. It took me back to the 60's and the Mod era; and still sounded as fresh as it did all those years back. Such a lovely afternoon I had. Today I played Otis.
  2. Many thanks loppylugs. Jake looks such a smart guy - beautifully groomed.
  3. Hi twroberts27, welcome in. I Love your: "bloody hell the things you see . . . ." I'll have to nick that saying. I read that your dad was a delivery man for Co-op bread. My mum had the Co-op for years, for delivery of both milk and bread. I can still smell the bread that came out of the waxed wrapper; I wrote to Katyjay about it not so long back. My mum used to carefully fold the wrapper up and put it to the back of the pantry for use later on for packing up sandwiches.
  4. Hi Beefsteak, to his fans, Elvis lives forever in their minds. X
  5. Saw this at Capitol Cinema when a teenager. Exciting stuff. Long Live Elvis XX
  6. Hi letsavagoo, how lucky you were. I remember going in there for a drink and thinking how 'olde world' and elegant the place was. Hope you can find some photos.
  7. Hi EileenH, sounds like words got around that you're 'A Rescue Lady'. Lovely stories.
  8. Hi Pixie, thanks for informing me of the difference between a ginger tabby and a tortoiseshell. I know tortoiseshell's are rare, so your mum's lucky to have two - would you think me rude in asking where she got them? Re your photo of Vespa's St George Cross - how incredible! Do you have a photo of your cat who reached 16? Sounds like Vespa's very much like Tiggy, independent. And sounds like Kenny likes to be close to you.
  9. Hi loppylugs, your description of Jake: 'sharp as a razor', reminds me of my much beloved Scottish Terrier 'Judy'. Judy was a real scruff but what she lacked in beauty she doubled in brains. On her return from the 'Poodle Parlour' she so hated her newly cut, shampooed body, as soon as she could she'd escape to the bottom of the garden to roll around in the compost heap. And then to add to that she wouldn't talk for days. Yes, I think she was stubborn too. Hope we can see a bigger photo of loppylugs. I've got one of Judy with a daisy chain strung around her, I must find the time to sort
  10. Hi dgbrit, I can understand why you called Sheridan and Ozzie after 'Keeping up Appearances' 'cos they certainly do; they look well suited to lick the feet of an Emperor - they're so gorgeous. My sister had a shihtzu years back, named Fonzie; she treated him like her baby. When Fonzie was ill one time she used her savings and took him to Harley Street for some Royal treatment!
  11. Hi Pixie, I can see that you've given your cats' names in your top posting: Kenny and Vespa, am I right? I wouldn't have recognised them as being related, especially with one being tortoiseshell and the other a tabby. Kenny is so pretty - s'pose you know already that male cats have smaller faces than the females? My daughter's kept cats for years. Recently she lost 'Tiggy' aged 13; she was a three legged cat and had been 'lost' on many occasions - she literally did have nine lives! My daughter was broken hearted at having to let 'Tiggy' go but recently acquired two sisters from the 'C
  12. An Afterthought: I wish the owners had added their pets' names.
  13. What Gorgeous Animals: Poohbear's 2, beautiful, dogs - Intelligence written in their eyes. dgbrit's two pampered pooches - don't you just want to pick them up (one at a time) and give them a cuddle? Adorable. Pixie's 2 beautiful cats - so different - the tortoiseshell one with such a tender and pretty face (lovely photograph) and the other whose eyes and ears are remarkably the same shape. In fact the ears are like those of a lynx.
  14. 'In the Ghetto', one of my favourites too. Elvis doing social realism and bringing tears to my eyes. XX
  15. Must admit the 'British Invasion' of America in the early 60's caused Elvis some concern. Heard the story of when 'The Beatles' went to meet 'The King'?: Anyway the story goes the 'Beatles' were shown into a room in which there was a stage with a throne set upon it. They had to wait for some time; John Lennon was a bit cocky, not taking Elvis' supremacy seriously. Eventually when Elvis appeared he took his seat on the throne. Lennon told later of how he'd been reduced to tears at meeting the legend; he conceded that Elvis was well and truly 'King'.
  16. Don't knock Elvis. He was so beautiful and brilliant. Touched by the Gods. Imagine the vast ego he was carrying. As he got older of course the insecurities would increase. I don't believe Elvis 'died' when he went into the army; I truly believe his mother's death affected him terribly. Nothing would be the same after Gladys died. God Bless Elvis. You are 'The King' - Always. XX
  17. 'You know you're from Nottingham when . . . . . . . you get chatting to the person seated next to you in the cinema. I took a trip to the 'Broadway' this afternoon - pensioner's cup of tea, biscuits and film 'special'. This lovely, friendly lady came and sat by my side; almost immediately we got on like a house on fire. In fact after the film we stayed to chat but were thrown out because the staff wanted to empty the place! Just shows it's not only kids that cause trouble, also that Nottingham people are keeping up their reputation for being friendly.
  18. Was you one of the lucky boys at school who wore 'clinic glasses' (we called them)?
  19. Hi Fellas, yes it definately IS Wendy Richard/s and wasn't she gorgeous? Shame about the Mouth though - okay it's just for the record I know. The record went straight to number 1 I'm sure and that was because it was such a breathe of fresh air amongst Pat Boone and Frank Ifield.
  20. I thought it was you mick because katyjay emailed me the photographs of your get - together at Christmas (which I missed through illness) and I thought the young boy resembled you - obviously you haven't aged much! Anyway who is the little fellow?
  21. I love the drum beat in 'Peggy Sue'. Even though Buddy's main theme was love / romance, every song that he sang had something different. The lovely light music that accompanied 'Everyday', so delightful.
  22. This is Wonderful Cliff Ton. Thanks for retrieving it. The poster really gets my imagination working; wouldn't I just love to step to step into the building and take a walk around the place? Idea for a film don't you think? Such a wonderful edifice. How insane to knock this down!
  23. Hi mudgie, I love 60's music too, especially 'The Temptations' and lots of other Mo-town stuff. Wasn't 'The Shangrilas' record just brilliant the way the girls shouted: "look out, look out!" and the revving of the motorbike in the background? 'He's A Rebel', brilliant too. And I well remember when Twinkle came on the scene. And Mike Sarne - 'Come Outside' - wasn't that record just brilliant too?: 'Little doll we've been twistin' all night long, little doll, little doll, got a feelin' something's wrong, little doll, cos it ain't right we gotta keep on dancin' must be some more time l
  24. I'll check 'Forever Young' out Babs, sounds like good fun. Thanks for telling us.
