  1. Ahh yes, bed sheets straight off the line & onto bed, have a nice shower just before bedtime = bliss..
  2. Ah yes John you're right, most UK homes don't have utility rooms so top loader would take too much room. All three places my Wife & I have lived, we had a front loader under the worktop near the sink. As Australians & Americans seem to have no problems with cold water washing I'll carry on doing the same, just do the odd hot service wash to freshen up the washer now & then..
  3. Every washer I saw in America were top loader vertical axis jobs, most of the ones I've seen in UK & Europe were front loader horizontal axis ones. Top loader Countries seem to prefer cold washes & front loader Countries hot washes. Is this coincidence or is cold washing better in a top loader? Banjo48, our new-ish washer is cold fill only, they all seem to be now for some unknown reason...
  4. Thanks for the link Craig, put it in my bookmarks..
  5. I set the washer of by mistake on a boil wash with jumpers in it, ruined the lot. My Wife Sue was not a happy bunny that day. Mind you they were sterile.. :)
  6. Our tumble dryer conked out years ago, never got another one. Put washing on line if fine, if yuk, under canopy or clothes horse in front of the gloworm hideaway gas boiler if frosty. Usually cold wash since been to USA, had no problems so far but bit worried about media reports..
  7. Been a bit of a hoo-aah in media over washing clothes at cold/low temperatures: saying it doesn't kill germs & bad for us ect. When I was in USA I bought some cold water laundry powder & it seemed to wash OK. Any of our US, Australian or New Zealand friends heard or seen anything in there media about this? Anyone had any problems washing at cold/low temperatures?
  8. I remember being dragged out of bed to watch sputnik going overhead, I must have been about three, everyone was exited, cant remember seeing it though. I remember my first day at school (Gotham infants) not impressed at all, lol..
  9. Thanks for the link, asked to join & been accepted. Looks some good stuff on there, I'll have a look through when I come back from my line dance class..
  10. Yes I'm on FB, I'll have a look through to see if I can find that status, thanks for info..
  11. Ah yes, had to have a new head-frame if I remember right, I expect some one will update us about whats going on over on the mining forum... I see I've been promoted to a Shotfirer on there, does that mean I can boss people around? Lol..
  12. Looks strange to see head-stocks with no wheels on them, also an upcast shaft with no airlock gubbins. I remember reading on your mining site that the fans are underground..
  13. I understand that on a trolley bus overhead supply one wire was positive & the other negative: was this a free floating system or was one wire earthed at the substation? If so was the bus itself earthed through that wire?
  14. Worked at Hillards for a few weeks when it first opened. First & last time I worked in a supermarket, hated it with a vengance... Many happy nights at the Welfare in the early 80's, pulled a couple of times in there, before I was married of course...
  15. My Father-in-law used to say that, presume it must come from an advert for the gas board, but I can't remember seeing it..
  16. Or. For your throats sake, 'don't smoke'. Mind you that wouldn't have sold many fags would it?
  17. I suppose if your 'gormless' then someone must have had some 'gorm' for you to have less of it.. Mam also used gormpot, as in "Oh him, he's a right gormpot". Mind you she was from Sheffield so it could have been a Yorkshire saying..
  18. Mam always called me gormless when I'd done sumat wrong & got found out. "That's right, just stand there & look gormless"....SWMBO says I look gormless when I can't think of an answer..
  19. Remember the coke brazier smell down the Meadows when they were changing over from DC to AC, (early 60's.) The night watchman sat in his tent keeping warm & chasing us kids off..
  20. Reminds me of a thing Mam used to say: When she asked me why I did something stupid, (happened a lot) I'd say "because so & so did the same thing" she'd say "if so & so put there head in a gas oven, would you?" I'd then stand there with a gormless look on my face.
  21. Honda 50 moped & dansette viva record player..
  22. Yeah the side product gubbins must have given off a pong. I can remember the smell when I worked down the pit when you went though the air doors from intake to return airways, it hit you at first till you got used to it. They said each seam had it's own smell, the only one's I could tell apart were Deep Soft & Black Shale down Hucknall: DS had a mellow smell & BS had an acrid harsh smell. I couldn't tell the difference between Low Main, Piper & Waterloo seams down Moorgreen..
  23. I can't remember what town gas smells like anymore, I can remember that we were changed over to natural gas while I was at work, came home & it was all done. Mam said it didn't work as good after changeover..
  24. Yeah I suppose we are. My train set used to give off a funny sparking smell, Dad said it was ozone, I thought it was the transformer shoving out too many volts. We could recreate Basford gas works by turning on the hob but not lighting it, I suppose health & safety would moan when the house blew up.
  25. Yup that's the sound. Just shown this thread to my Wife: she thinks we're all mad, lol..
