  1. yes it was coal fired run by mr and mrs george they had downs syndrom daughter dorothy who helped in the shop she was great at serving and wrapping the chips her mum used to take the money loved my six penny mix with bater bits from there. i lived on debil st during the 50s and knew a lot of the railway men who lived and worked down therespent alot of time round the sheds used to sit on the wall of the railway club top of the st a lot too especialy with my guyfawks on the friday before bonfire night

  3. we went last week to snibston discovery park fishing ponds there wild flower meadow looked very like your second picture are the little purple ones wild orchids compo yours looks so natural

  6. i can remember whippy ice cream van comming to deabil st in the 50s but carnt remember whos it was know he was a dog lover usd to give our dog kim an icecream cone every day our dog was always at the bottom of the entry long before he got there and whould not come in untill he had had his ice cream. we used to fetch a bowl full to go with sunday tined fruit. and bread and butter.

  10. we always go to andys in stapleford for our fish and chips usually after going to mfn cooks it to order looks for dave comming in and sez cod dave yep sez dave its in for you ready in about 10 mins ok. always fresh and good quality and friendly chat while you wait
  11. thay are a great group we have had them at the whiteheart quite a few times yes we know they a mod band but what a lot of people seem to forget is that we used to dance to a lot of the same music in the 60s just a different style of dancing

  14. i know i could not do it know rob. we used to go that way to the pit with my dad on a friday to collect his wages have dinner in the canteen clean side only devided from the dirty side for the men in their work cloths by a metal rail, dad would then go for a game of cards at the dirty duck (grey goose for those who dont know its local name). and i would get on the bus to netherfield and then 26 up to cavendidish rd with mums house keeping money,making sure i did not loose it on the way home. but my paper round could be a killer too buxton cromford and belper avenues all big hills bad enough

  18. this afternoon i decided to get dave to take me for a drive to the national arboretum near litchfield as it was such a nice day we have been once befor about 3 years ago on the ride to the wall the weather then was very cold so we said we would go again when it was nice weather had a very pleasent couple of hours and there were quite a few people there it being the 70th aniversary of d day before we came away there was a male voice choir proforming outside the visitor centre the had some realy good voices among them they sang a few wartime songs and church hymms as well as take him home and
  19. i worked for a while on a work placement at sutherland house school the swains avenue school was for 5 to 11 year olds the senior schooll also called sutherland house was at that time on cedar rd mapperley park this has since been moved to a larger building on pelam ave i seem to remember the school was oridgeinaly named after the house it was first stated inbut it was nearly 20 years ago i only recently destroyed the information i had about it.

  21. instead of keeping quiet ask the dog owners nicely if they would keep there dogs on leads as your wife has a fear of dogs check the park rules many know have rules that dogs be kept on a leadif this is the case poit this out.
