  1. How much did you pay for your first VCR? Open question to all. I paid £645 for my JVC. Magic bit of kit with functions like, Play, Record, Rewind, Pause, Slow, etc - Just tooooo many to list. Oh, and it had a digital clock and some lights that blinked Lot of money in those days.
  2. I'm not picking on Terry Wogan especially, but he was the one I was listening to. Now, in my book, if some well off individual - be it Terry or someone else - has the (paid) job of goading us into parting with our hard earned funds, then I think it right that they should start off by saying, " hey, I think this is a real good cause and I've donated £xxxx, so com'n you lot, join in and give what you can" That's all I'm trying to say. Listening to that idiot Keith Chegwin begging for us to donate on Friday morning just about pushed me over the top I'm afraid. As fer a beer before Christmas -
  3. I'm sorry but I do not do charity to beggars, whether they are in the pub with a bucket ( now, how many of these have a genuine collecting card?????) on the street with a dog, or on the tele (with lots of dosh) but urging us to part with our small earnings (after most of it has gone in tax to HMRC). I give privately to the charities or good causes of MY choice, in my own time, not when I'm being railroaded. My sister has suffered from MS for a number of years and I have donated on many occasions to the MS fund that finances research for a cure. I'm not in a position where I have large amount
  4. Methinks the grass wants cutting. Apart from that - no comment, although I go out of my way to feed our feathered friends while out walking.
  5. I remember mum plugging the iron and/or hair dryer into the light socket. Couldn't get away with it nowadays.
  6. ...............and, have you noticed that not 1 of them have bragged about how much THEY have donated???? Terry Wogan.......£800k a year...... much, much more than you or I earn, Chris Evans (tw*t), megga rich...... etc, etc, etc, That's wot I say. My hard earned dosh stays firmly in my deep pockets !bored2!

    RULES!

I was not referring to you my friend. It's not many times that I've been on here when someone has been racist - in fact I can't recall a single occasion, but I'm sure someone will remind me. It's not Big brother - it's Bip !laughing!

    RULES!

We are all adults on here (mainly) and enjoy each others posts. Too many rules and regulations will lead to members thinking twice before posting, which, in my opinion is not good. Lets leave it as it is and let the mods + admin deal with the odd (and yes he is ) member who steps over the unwritten line. If it ain't broke - don't fix it. That's wot I say.
  9. Hi Ashley I've got an Oxford 140Amp oil filled set you are welcome to borrow, or, if it's more convenient, an oxy/act porta pak. Where abouts are you situated?
  10. Might be the same 2 that gave me a ticket yesterday after finishing another long shift. Parked out the back of the Poacher while I quenched my thirst - unknowingly parking in a Residents Permit area. I've got a Dispensation to park on double yellows, but, as I wasn't working I didn't take the p**s. Serves me right. A small mistake has cost me 15 pints of HP. I'll know better next time!
  11. Not one to be pedantic mate !rotfl! BUT - that reciepe for the Plum Cake is ILLEGAL. Should be in Grams and Kilograms and the tin should be 177.8mm not 7"
  12. Com'n then Sam - put us old 'uns out of our misery. What's a Rat Ring and who is Richard whatsisname?
  13. In Word, Just move your mouse up to the top task bar and then right click. On the drop down list click - drawing. On the new taskbar that appears, click on the circle and then, holding down ctrl click in the space and drag the circle out to what ever size you want. Now repeat this and form another circle. Now drag the smaller one into the larger one and you have your doughnut. Simple.
  14. I concur - great chippy, and the fish....... crispy batter and full of flavour..... We popped into there last year while camping at Mablethorpe. MMmmmmm.......... Sandersons pies -my favourite. They are a standard I judge all newcomers against. So far, no one beats them!!!. Their motto? - always eaten, never beaten. I once, as a young lad, worked about 2 doors down from their factory on Greasley Street in Bulwell. It was my job to take the orders, go to Sandersons, buy the pies and then put them on top of the 'warmer' in the factory till dinner time. The 'warmer' was a wood fired stove
  15. Boon was on the telly last night - anyone watch it besides me?
  16. If I remember correctly, the shuttle had just come into service and it did a world tour. It landed at Stanstead which is where I took the pictures. Amazing sight and a little piece of history. Found another one in my little box in B & W Here's a couple of write up's I found http://www.flickr.com/photos/stuart166axe/2311179764/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire/conte...e_feature.shtml
  17. I worked on a job years ago in Sheffield and across the site were a couple of Gasometers. I remember a scaffold up part of the outside and a guy welding something on the side of it. Suddenly, a hugh flame erupted out of the side - panicking like billyo - we scuttled down the scaffold as quick as owt, thinking it was going to 'blow', only to be re-assured by the site gaffer that it was in no danger of blowing as it was only the escaping gas burning. For it to blow it , apparently , it only needed the flame to go inside, but the pressure of the gas coming out prevented this. Glad to say,
  18. Anyone remember this in the early eighties at Stanstead? - sorry about the quality
  19. It's a wonder them copper pipes ain't been nicked and weighed in ..............................
  20. They are now building a retail come commercial property estate on Basford Gas Works. I'll grab some photo's and post them. Steel structures are up at the moment. My step dad used to work at Basford on the coking run between Nottm and Northampton. He had to deliver 2 lorry loads a day. Once, he forgot to drop the tipper back down and drove off. It ripped the lorry to bits and damaged the smelter!! Got a bit of a b*********g by all accounts. In winter, he often got called out to walk around the gasometer joints through the night with portable heaters to stop the water freezing. In between
  21. Hi firbeck. I used to do the drawings on tracing paper but I've moved on up to CAD now. Must agree about the 'personal touch' - you could get to know someone's drawing style and recognise it when you saw the print. That's all lost with CAD. CAD has it's benefits though, such as 'copy and paste' 'move' etc. Sure makes for light work when the alterations come in - saves all that scratching with the razor blade
  22. Com'n then - how many jobs can you mention that have been made redundant by Technology?? I'll start it off with....................the Royal Mail Telegraph Dispatcher.
  23. Nice one Rog..... I'd forgotten that you could buy ciggies one at a time from the local newsagents. Care to try it these days??? towards mum's payday I often had to take a few bottles back to the 'offie and then buy 5 Park Drive tipped with the deposits just realised (about 5p)
  24. Not that I watch it of course..........Mrs Frank fed me the info.......
