  1. Also, on many modern cars the lights are increasingly like Christmas lights or Blackpool illuminations. They aren't just a single bulb; they can be a string of fairy lights, or a cluster of LEDs, or some other over-designed 'artistic' arrangement. So it's not just a case of replacing an individual bulb; you may have to replace a whole unit. As a random example, take a Range Rover. How many separate parts are there to these headlights.......and how many can be replaced individually ?
  2. It must be the first day of spring because the council/contractors are out cutting the grass in public areas.
  3. I think the actual diagnostic process for something like this involves plugging a laptop into the car and looking at the read-out. It must occupy the 'technician' for at least 2-3 minutes. That's how car dealers make their money these days. An alternative diagnostic check involves looking at the light bulb and seeing that it's not working, or dim. That could be done by anyone, and is much cheaper.
  4. They're all still there, and all still largely functioning they way they used to. https://maps.app.goo.gl/s4PbsBcg24EP6Hgh8
  5. As always on Nottstalgia, there's also an old thread on the subject. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/7264-reg-guest-guitarvocalist/?tab=comments#comment-92716
  6. I agree the sound effect is really annoying - and too loud. When I watched the whole thing a second time, I muted the video and played music of my choice. The sequence at Bulwell which starts at 12.40 and runs for several minutes is fascinating, even though I didn’t know Bulwell in those days. I recognised the Level Crossing at St albans’ Road at around 13.40, and the Viaduct from various angles, and I believe the Railway Club building is still there today ... this place..... https://maps.app.goo.gl/5PCpx5tRZBTpHWqn6
  7. One of the best Nottingham videos I've come across. It concentrates on steam trains, but don't let that frighten you off. There's a lot of material showing the area around the railways.....eg sequences at Bulwell Common. The first 3 mins are Nottm city centre - and it's worth watching for that alone.........then 10 mins at Victoria Stn.......then Bulwell, and then in no particular order, Hucknall, Basford, Netherfield/Colwick, Kimberley, Linby, and all points north. Sometimes it gets a bit boring, but you just fast-forward for a few minutes and get back to something in
  8. There are quite a few buildings from my earlier life which are no longer around. The house where I grew up in Clifton is still there, but my infants school was demolished around 20 years ago, and my secondary school - Fairham - bit the dust a few years ago. Yet surprisingly, they were both built after I was born. I can think of two places where I worked which have now been demolished, and none of the other buildings where I worked are still being used for the same purpose as when I was there. Yet both my grandparents houses in Lenton and Radford - both built
  9. A sign of getting older.......... When you have to fill in a form online which includes your date of birth, I'm having to scroll further and further down the list. One day my numbers won't be there.
  10. denshaw got there before me.
  11. I didn't know the area but looking on Google Maps (the link below), the path doesn't seem to still be there. Gauntley Street is top/right and the only path coming away from it can be seen going straight through the wasteland and over the railway line on a footbridge. Looking along the Leen further south there's housing (Meadow Brown Road) where I assume your path would have gone. https://maps.app.goo.gl/w5tPS7yJLyxGL3bw6
  12. The photo on that Youtube video is also an interesting reminder of extreme male facial hair which was popular in those days.
  13. That could be a location for a forthcoming Meet-Up.
  14. I bought the first two Cockney Rebel LPs when they were released. I liked them; they were interesting and original. People with long memories might remember the first single 'Judy Teen'.
  15. The subject of voting for someone who has changed to a different political party highlights the question of whether - in an election - you vote for a person or a party. For instance…if you were a dedicated Labour voter, but you didn’t like or approve of the candidate - would you still vote Labour ? If you liked the candidate as a person, but didn’t agree with their party politics, which way would you vote ?
  16. @katyjay and @Alpha Picture Nottingham have a few photos of that row of houses. https://picturenottingham.co.uk/image-library.html?keywords=whitemoor avenue
  17. One of the downsides of making Nottstalgia visible to a Google search is that it also lets in a few spambots advertising their strange services.
  18. Last Tuesday I sent a message to the email address which Albert used to register on NS. A week later I haven't yet had any response.
  19. It's named on old, large-scale maps; just up from Chapel Street.
  20. Welcome to Nottstalgia Michace29. I assume you've read all the earlier posts in this thread and you've identified the correct building. If you look back starting at June 28th 2019, you'll see there's potential for confusion regarding Whitemoor House, Whitemoor Cottage, and Whitemoor Lodge, which were different places but close to each other.
  21. Always liked the Mamas and Papas; and this is a great example of why they were good.
  22. I'll resurrect this old thread because Facebook has told me that today (March 9th) is Margie's birthday yet again. So happy birthday again
  23. An update on the current status of some of the Notts branches of Wilko. https://westbridgfordwire.com/wilko-whats-happened-to-nottinghamshire-stores-after-collapse/
  24. Just seen my first 24-reg car. They've been out a week.
  25. I also read his autobiography several years ago when he used to come to the evening meet-ups at the Roebuck. I was expecting a few sheets of A4; it was almost a Dickens-length book which took several days to read. It would be nice to think it had been preserved and available for other people to see.
