  1. That figure explains why car insurance is so high these days. Imagine a car involved in a minor shunt and the front end being slightly bent; if one headlight costs £1k how much would the whole front end cost (eg. radiator, bumper, grille, etc).
  2. Every time Truss speaks, you think she can't get any madder..........but she always does.
  3. A small area in West Bridgford was hit by a tornado yesterday and caused a spectacular amount of damage in around 10 seconds. https://westbridgfordwire.com/west-bridgford-tornado-30-images-show-extent-of-damage-caused-by-freak-weather-event/
  4. It's greatly to their credit that they could still perform in such embarrassingly bad conditions. A good demonstration of how pop music was treated in those days. The programme and organisation was in the hands of middle-aged men in suits who had no idea or understanding of what was happening.
  5. Presumably on Long Row somewhere between King St/ClumberStreet ? And the name Peter Barrie vaguely rings a bell; I probably walked past the place many times, obviously without going in.
  6. Granby Street was roughly the stretch of MMW from Friar Lane to Park Row.
  7. The street pattern has changed, but I think Smalleys have moved several times......although always staying around the same area. This is the junction of Park Row/Derby Road these days ..... https://maps.app.goo.gl/dFKPiEGMhNmpvNqKA
  8. When it looked like this.... https://picturenottingham.co.uk/image-library/image-details/poster/ntgm019212/posterid/ntgm019212.html And another version of Smalleys shop .... https://picturenottingham.co.uk/image-library/image-details/poster/ntgm002713/posterid/ntgm002713.html
  9. I wonder if there's a connection with Smalleys, whose are still operating on Derby Road, albeit on a reduced scale. (They used to be further down near Chapel Bar). https://maps.app.goo.gl/GDZvrchJWV8KKoNG8
  10. Notts got off to a spectacular start. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/68760144
  11. I think Long Covid has been around almost as long as the original version; I've seen many references to it over the years. This is the NHS info on it...... https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/long-term-effects-of-covid-19-long-covid/
  12. There's an even bigger set of old Clifton photos here - https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/local-news/gallery/unseen-pictures-clifton-early-days-3138772 .... and one of the photos is from the late 1950s and shows a collection of pushchairs outside a row of shops. Pity it's not closer because I could be in one of those pushchairs.
  13. Looking at old photos of Nottingham, those signs seemed to be on every street corner.....and many of them are still there, although they're now faded and weather-beaten.
  14. And this is the 'new' building on Mansfield Road/Bluecoat St. I'm not sure of its current ownership or use. https://maps.app.goo.gl/gUcjQm4RESJkGDwq7
  15. Bluecoat are taking over the world. They've grabbed what used to be at the bottom end of Maid Marian Way....which may be what you're referring to. https://maps.app.goo.gl/tJiPMt9GPeyo18fSA
  16. The basis of MGB is still there but is now called Bluecoat Wollaton Academy, with entrances on Harrow Road and Sutton Passeys Crescent. It's been modernised a lot, but underneath it all is the original 1950s buildings. https://maps.app.goo.gl/cEVg7skewuA2ASje6
  17. Another possible contender would be Margaret Glenn Bott near Crown Island.
  18. Running through that lot shows an interesting cultural change. In the first few years all the artists look like identikit younger versions of older people....dressing like their parents. It's only when the Rolling Stones appear in 1965 that young people start having their own identity which doesn’t involve copying what went before. (even the Beatles continued to wear suits and ties in those early years).
  19. I'd forgotten about that; haven't heard it for years.
  20. For anybody who missed my post a few weeks ago about Albert Smith.......... https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/16508-whatever-happened-to/?page=24&tab=comments#comment-716889
  21. Maybe they all forgot to adjust their clocks at the weekend, and now they don't know what time it is or where they are.
  22. This one ? https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=491096994423006&set=a.168005006732208
  23. For the last few years I’d had breakdown cover with Green Flag, although I‘ve never had to use them When the renewal came up a couple of weeks ago the price had gone from £74 to £95, which I thought was a bit steep. A visit to Money Supermarket produced several quotes around £35-£45…..including one from Green Flag. Their renewal of my long-standing membership wanted £95; if I went to them from their website as a new customer I’d get the same coverage for £40. I went with the RAC for £38.
  24. Look at this link..... http://nawcat.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/ It takes you to Notts Archives website where you can search their catalogue.
