For the last few years I’d had breakdown cover with Green Flag, although I‘ve never had to use them When the renewal came up a couple of weeks ago the price had gone from £74 to £95, which I thought was a bit steep. A visit to Money Supermarket produced several quotes around £35-£45…..including one from Green Flag. Their renewal of my long-standing membership wanted £95; if I went to them from their website as a new customer I’d get the same coverage for £40. I went with the RAC for £38.

Also, on many modern cars the lights are increasingly like Christmas lights or Blackpool illuminations. They aren't just a single bulb; they can be a string of fairy lights, or a cluster of LEDs, or some other over-designed 'artistic' arrangement. So it's not just a case of replacing an individual bulb; you may have to replace a whole unit. As a random example, take a Range Rover. How many separate parts are there to these headlights.......and how many can be replaced individually ?

I think the actual diagnostic process for something like this involves plugging a laptop into the car and looking at the read-out. It must occupy the 'technician' for at least 2-3 minutes. That's how car dealers make their money these days. An alternative diagnostic check involves looking at the light bulb and seeing that it's not working, or dim. That could be done by anyone, and is much cheaper.

I agree the sound effect is really annoying - and too loud. When I watched the whole thing a second time, I muted the video and played music of my choice. The sequence at Bulwell which starts at 12.40 and runs for several minutes is fascinating, even though I didn’t know Bulwell in those days. One of the best Nottingham videos I've come across. It concentrates on steam trains, but don't let that frighten you off. There's a lot of material showing the area around the railways.....eg sequences at Bulwell Common. There are quite a few buildings from my earlier life which are no longer around. The house where I grew up in Clifton is still there, but my infants school was demolished around 20 years ago, and my secondary school - Fairham - bit the dust a few years ago. Yet surprisingly, they were both built after I was born. I can think of two places where I worked which have now been demolished, and none of the other buildings where I worked are still being used for the same purpose as when I was there. I didn't know the area but looking on Google Maps (the link below), the path doesn't seem to still be there. Gauntley Street is top/right and the only path coming away from it can be seen going straight through the wasteland and over the railway line on a footbridge. The subject of voting for someone who has changed to a different political party highlights the question of whether - in an election - you vote for a person or a party. For instance…if you were a dedicated Labour voter, but you didn’t like or approve of the candidate - would you still vote Labour ? If you liked the candidate as a person, but didn’t agree with their party politics, which way would you vote ?

Welcome to Nottstalgia Michace29. I assume you've read all the earlier posts in this thread and you've identified the correct building. If you look back starting at June 28th 2019, you'll see there's potential for confusion regarding Whitemoor House, Whitemoor Cottage, and Whitemoor Lodge, which were different places but close to each other.

Always liked the Mamas and Papas; and this is a great example of why they were good.
