  1. If you look at Picture the Past and search Alms, the first few results you get are a place in Wirksworth, but after that there's an incredible number of examples, some demolished and some still standing. Such as Canning Circus, Edwalton, Clifton Village, Main Road Wilford, London Road, Wollaton Street, off Mansfield Road Sherwood, Collins in Beeston.
  2. Well, that gives us a reason for mentioning Hanley Street without using the word "buses" http://www.pictureth...004490&prevUrl=
  3. Abel Collins Homes on Carrington Street in the 1930s
  4. Welcome to Nottstalgia CloneDaddy. If you take a look at this site http://www.pictureth...rg.uk/index.php and put Portland Road in the Search section, you'll find quite a few photos of it from various times in the past (as well as a number of other photos which have "Portland" in their title, which you probably won't be quite so interested in)
  5. According to the OS in the early 1950s it was a "Hutted Camp".
  6. It would be nice if we do see you again trader. Don't become a member of the "joining but not posting" club.
  7. Welcome to Nottstalgia jamesrob1. You may not be aware of this site http://www.pictureth...rg.uk/index.php which is where alot of the photos come from. For your particular interest, it has a few showing what I think may be the newsagent you refer to on Grassington Road http://www.pictureth...019410&prevUrl= http://www.pictureth...019412&prevUrl= http://www.pictureth...019409&prevUrl= http://www.pictureth...019408&prevUrl=
  8. Mick, when they were being handed out free by various companies, I was in the middle of a house move so I acquired a double helping of them. I've got about 6 - unused - which you can have. If you're appearing at the next meet-up, I'll bring them.
  9. SeanF, you're right, this one....... http://www.pictureth...013460&prevUrl= I'm surprised that photo hasn't cropped up so far in this thread after 5 years. The site is now occupied not by Lillywhites, but by one of the other identikit sports stores, JD Sports or something similar.
  10. Noticed a couple of days ago that the Starbuck's on Clumber Street has closed down. Maybe the novelty is wearing off.
  11. Here's the early 1960s. Morris Street is clearly marked. (Something I've just noticed which dates it..........Arno Vale road doesn't extend beyond the bottom of Somersby Road. I can remember that being extended. The old GN railway line would still have been in the way - albeit unused)
  12. Looking at the Old Maps site, Morris Street was still there in the early 70s
  13. As mentioned in that story, only a few days ago the people of Totnes in Devon threw out Costa's plans to open up there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-20080804 It's nice to see these ever-expanding giants can sometimes be stopped in their tracks.
  14. The cul-de-sac is the one called Caxton Close? It used to be a printing factory - hence Caxton.
  15. Next one up was Morris Street. I can't enlarge this too much or the detail goes completely, but hopefully you'll get the main idea
  16. In this book...... you will find this photo..... Described as "...wreckage of Canberra bomber which crashed on railway sidings in Bulwell..."
  17. banjo, you may have already done this, but if you put Daybrook in the Search field at the top of the Homepage (make sure it says "Forums" and not just "this topic", you'll get quite a few threads which have mentioned the subject
  18. Ashley, the other two are apparently Langley Mill http://www.pictureth...000005&prevUrl= and Ilkeston http://www.pictureth...000516&prevUrl=
  19. An odd example......a Notts & Derby trolleybus which looks like a normal bus with poles stuck on top http://website.lineo...tsxderby327.jpg same thing from the other side http://website.lineo...sxderby327b.jpg And another regular trolley http://website.lineo...derbynnu234.jpg
  20. I definitely remember this, but I thought it was stupid even when I was a kid......... if you see an ambulance, hold your collar till you see a dog
  21. Beachbum, as you lived in the butchery world you may know the answer to this.... Was there a butcher's shop somewhere on St Ann's Well Road in the early 60s where the owner/boss/manager was a woman? I had an uncle who worked in such a place.
  22. A Notts & Derby trolleybus on route A1 passing Victoria Station. A photo where nothing remains.
  23. That's the kind of stuff I often buy at Morrison's on the "Quick Sale - still in date" shelf.
  24. This nearly includes both. A bus which probably came from Nottingham, and the tram wires overhead. http://www.sct61.org.uk/mg149
