  1. And it's noticeable they don't make any mention of where it's printed. Hasn't been Nottingham since they moved out of Forman Street; then it was Derby, and now it's Birmingham. That's how local it is.
  2. Wonder if there's any connection https://www.google.c...-8&q=chek whyte
  3. Stu, I have moved this topic to "The Medders" because when it was in the original "Breaking News" forum it could only be seen by people logged in; it was not visible to guest viewers
  4. Surely the "ultimate Frisbee area" is some kind of joke........ Apart from that, a large open, green space next to the river should definitely be preserved and upgraded. The cafe has looked like an abandoned after-thought for several years; you almost can't tell if it's open or not. Is the bandstand is ever used these days? In the 70s it was used as a venue for the "Castle Rock"events with local groups, and before then I can remember being there with my parents and seeing brass bands playing on a Sunday evening. One of the main improvements which could be made is to block the road off to sto
  5. Top of Greythorne Drive/Loughborough Road, opposite Wilford Hill cemetery https://maps.google....=12,320.64,,0,0 It was still open for business in mid-2004 because I'd drive past it some evenings and see about 3 cars in the car park. Bet it was a real bundle of laughs inside. It must've closed not long after that; it stood empty for a couple of years and as an earlier post says, it was actually demolished in May 2007. Can't believe someone wanted to build apartments there. I thought they'd gone out of fashion now.
  6. We've drifted from Talbot Street onto Hanley Street, and a lot of people seem to remember the electricity place.
  7. I've posted this link before in another topic, but for this thread it has a photo of a bus on Hanley Street just how everyone remembers them http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/
  8. ????? Hanley Street is some distance further down Talbot Street. We haven't reached it yet.
  9. Agreed. This is the view from that first post from a slightly different angle. Seeing this entrance makes it more obvious that it was a livery stable as mentioned earlier https://maps.google....66.93,,0,-2.83
  10. I hope you aren't expecting me to answer that question Scooters tend to all be a bit similar to my eyes Maybe it might help to see it a bit closer
  11. Here's Pope and Parr's place at the same time as I took the old school photo
  12. A bit of nostalgia for ex-Meadows people. This is apparently the old Bridgeway Hall on Arkwright Street which was demolished in the 60s to be replaced by the version which still exists today.
  13. It's not just that bridge which could've saved them some money; the whole section from the railway station to the ring-road follows the route of the old Great Central line almost exactly http://www.nottingha...hx?id=15768&p=0
  14. I think it's still there. https://goo.gl/maps/FQiJZ5pxhkG2
  15. Although I never met Isobel, I'm sorry to read the news and send sympathies and condolences to yourself and all family and relatives
  16. To add to Poohbear's comments, and referring to his first photo of Wollaton Street (with the sandstone wall)......... this is a photo from about a year ago, and shows what you get at the top of that wall if you go round to the Talbot Street side of things. These are obviously the remains of St Matthew's Church, and can just be seen in the right-hand edge of Poohbear's photo
  17. Same but different. Here's another 1930s view almost showing both buildings
  18. Apparently, at least in the 1930s
  19. Does that mean Blue Monkey call all of their pubs "The Organ Grinder"? That must get a bit confusing. http://www.bluemonke...e-organ-grinder
  20. That was this one http://nottstalgia.c...wtopic=9804&hl= You've backed up what was said earlier......that it might've been a "service" tunnel but wasn't a "normal" tunnel
  21. Good point, and I think you could be right. The only other survivor of the old Arkwright Street might be the Queen's Hotel (now selling fireplaces) at the junction with Queen's Drive, opposite the buildings which have just been demolished https://maps.google....154.22,,0,-4.01
  22. I assume you've looked at Streetview to see what Gamston looks like these days. When you were in the area it must've been just a small village near West Bridgford; many parts of that village still exist but it has all been engulfed by a large modern estate built in the late 80s/early 90s. The canal bridge you mentioned still exists but these days it is half of a dual carriageway; I don't remember the area when it was a single lane road, and I think I know (but not certain) where the kennels were.
  23. It may be a bit out of our area, but here's another pub you can buy and open up if you have a bit of spare cash http://www.rightmove...y-34617556.html
  24. Slightly different in that I'm on a Mac, but I'm not seeing any such gremlins on that thread or any other.
