  1. Morning Amy92 Where did you study for your teaching qualification?
  2. Welcome Dr Mike. Could you be a bit more specific as to which row.. which one in the middle etc? May one ask what you are a Dr. of?
  3. Glad to be of assistance.... When you've recovered, of course it's also possible to do the whole thing more simply. As with the plethora of 'Digital' or 'USB' turntables being sold. But they are mostly pretty low fi solutions and personally wouldn't bother. See my reply to Brew above. And of course you could abandon vinyl.. but that's sacrilege ...
  4. Mine was purchased around 2008 from memory. Price was £500. https://europe.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/hifi_components/cdr-hd1500/index.html You can download the full manual from the above link if you feel very, very brave!!! It will not burn anything, from any source, to anything other than 'protected', or 'CD-R 'Audio' discs. This is a bit annoying, because it's easily possible to get stuff from the likes of Youtube and use a converter (loads online) to 'extract' the music. Usually limited to 128 MP3 though. It's also easily possible
  5. Hi Beekay.. You've opened a can of worms now.... asking me about anything to do with audio or hi-fi could have me going on for weeks.... I use a Yamaha CDR HD-1500 CD recorder. Basically, it will accept any analogue input and convert it to digital, which it stores on an internal hard drive, and can then 'burn' to a disc. I use it to transfer vinyl to CD, either for use in the car, or for passing to friends. My main thing is vinyl. My record player is a bit 'posh'. and certainly cost many times more than my £300 (1993 prices) CD player. Thig is.. to these ears it sounds muc
  6. I like your style PP. I'm the boss in my house too, and I have my wife's permission to say so...
  7. Did that. Caught a few rays before it started raining. Then set about remembering how to use the CD recorder... I've copied a Shirley Horn album and the famous Getz Gilberto album from vinyl. Just like the old cassette decks the machine doesn't always get the track gaps spot on, or will create an extra track gap when there's a silence. but it's possible to edit all of that after the fact. It's a bit tedious because it's all done with buttons rather than just dragging things about like with a pc. But the results are superb and don't rely on iffy PC soundcards..
  8. Interesting stuff. Thanks!
  9. As an aside.. my wife and her long gone Mum used to work on match days for Littlewood's Catering in Liverpool, who did the pies and cuppas at both Liverpool and Everton. They told me even 40 years ago that people came from all over the UK and beyond, to support those teams. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing if it's real support. It's a lot better than the sort who 'attach' themselves to the top teams of the day and claim to have been fans all their lives..
  10. I can see the curtains twitching from here....
  11. Re: Talking Pictures. I usually look at the tv Guide for the week ahead and set interesting stuff to record. Mostly I look for old 'pop' films from the early 60's. Things like 'Play It Cool' starring Billy Fury. They are so bad they are good. One I'm on the look out for is 'It's Trad Dad', which I saw on the cinema. If I recall it was a similar sort of story to 'Don't Knock The Rock' in the fifties and 'The Young Ones'.. where the basic plot is some authority figure trying to suppress the 'kids' music.. but the kids 'win out in the end and usually say 'Gee..Let's Do The Show Right Her
  12. Yep.. wish I knew he was badmouthing peaceful idyllic Bestwood Est., I'd have got a few of the lads together and give 'im a bleddy gud kickin...
  13. Yesterday was a good day. Lots of time in the garden catching rays and repairing the damage wrought by high winds and heavy rain. Today is forecast iffy weather..so I'm going to record some vinyl albums to digital. It's a bit time consuming because it has to be done in real time, just like making up tapes used to be. Results are generally better though as my record player makes better sounds than my CD player.. assuming a decent clean record. On the other hand.. If the weather stays like it is now.. bright and sunny.. My plans may change..
  14. Agreed. As I see it all are welcome to contribute, or not, to read or ignore topics, etc. Unless they become abusive of course. Which has happened. I'd have thought there was enough about Nottingham, both historically and currently, to keep most people happy. But some strong friendships have developed over time, mostly through meet ups. People are interested in other people's lives, health, disasters and triumphs. It's human nature and in my book at least, it's the humanity shown here that makes it a welcoming place to be. I reckon I've pretty much exhausted my supp
  15. I rather suspect you missed the point of some of those posts and threads, but as I said above, nobody is forced to read any thread they aren't interested in. It's good to see you posting.
  16. Bottom line here is that nobody is forced to read or follow any thread or topic, so there room for all sorts of topics, so long as nobody insists on 'flooding' the site with excessive posts. In my experience, many forums begin with a very specific topic, but over time, as forums mature and people develop friendships, they find that they share more interests than simply the original one. My other favourite site started as a vehicle for its owner to discuss hi-fi and deal in second hand vinyl records. It developed into a broad 'audio' forum covering Modern, D.I.Y build, '
  17. Well he means me.. obviously...
  18. I can only echo the supportive sentiments aimed at CT. Top bloke. ( You can pay me later CT.. plain envelope as ever.... )
  19. Surely it is possible to enjoy the weather and accept climate change science at the same time?
  20. OK. I am 9 quid up... It's better than a smack in the gob...
  21. I'm not complaining Nonna. I did say I love the warm weather. I noticed last night at about 11:)) pm when I walked out of an air conditioned supermarket. into a wall of heat. Very unusual here especially at night.. but I'm not complaining. I do understand though.. that it can be a real trial for some people.
  22. £14:50 !!!! A bit rich for an old wino like me....
  23. It's all kicking off here!!
