  1. The pubs i miss most are all in Bulwell cross keys ,old red lion,old and new bull and butcher new town inn old golden ball in main st and masons arms
  2. yes i remember redfearns pop i was at school with ian the son and the best pop i can remember is portello and hoarhound
  3. you can still get pork dripping at morrisons or at the butchers shop in bulwell next to the littlewoods store opposite iceland not as nice as home renderd but still very tasty
  4. my first job was at sankeys pottery £5 5 shillings a week and boy did'nt you earn it, last job coded welder for saint gobain pipe lines fabricating adapters and couplings used to join all the pipes together.
  5. thanks mick for help with photos i hope i've done it right. yes the brook is the river maun they now have a swimming pool there and a climbing wall and the chapel last time i went had been moved to whitewater wood which is on the left just past the providor. As i said the 28th is just round the corner from where i now live which is why i taught them martial arts for their master at arms badge

  7. wow thanks to all who have commented on my post i never thought that so many would reply just shows what a intimate organisation the scouts are. many of my memories are of walesby but also places like broadstone warren in sussex. yorkshire .wales. scotland ,also kanderstag in switzerland and sarkplus loads of private sites eg farms mainly. thanks mick for that tip about photobucket will give it a try
  8. hi paulus yes walesby is still a scout camp although part of it is now a caravan site. I also was at that camp you went to and also the one in 1980 where by chance i was a guest of the 28th as a thank you for taking them through their master at arms badge i had a wonderful week with them. will now try to upload photos but just keep getting error messages saying file to big

Hi everybody, last october we had a reunion of the 48th nottingham(highbury school)scout groupwith ex members attending from 40 plus years ago the founder of the group was Ken Jones who at the time was a teacher at Highbury school. we are hoping to organise another reunion in the new year and would like more members to attend , i will try and post a picture of the group from 40 years ago at walesby
  10. now thats interesting in 1988 i took the 28th for their master at arms badge and as a thank you they invited me on there summer camp at Walesby which was an international jamboree but there was no lads with them names in the 48th when i was there. thanks for the reply paulus its good ther are people out there who enjoyed scouting
  11. the earliest date is probably late 40s early 50s i was brought up at the top of commercial road in a street called duchess st opposite the straw factory where in later years i worked ialso worked at sankeys pottery making clay plant pots i was also in the 48th nottingham(highbury school scout group and at the moment trying to contact any other members from the 50s and 60s

Starr lane was the first 2 or 3 hundred yards of commercial road if i remember right there was a bank at the bottom then a fuit and veg shop then richards toy shop then a paper shop then a fish shop the fish shop and the fruit and veg shop were called horslys then a funiture shop and then a tyre firm all this was on the right going up the lane on the opposite side was home and colonial a herbalist roberts i think it was called then there was fosters shoe repairs dewhurst the butchers farrends carlins which later became a cafe upstairs yes fregars garage was renamed market garage
  13. hi this is my first post so i hope you will forgive any mistakes i make Star lane in Bulwell ran from the market up to fregars garage opposite strelley house Ernie
