  2. During the early 1960's my mum would often drive past Tollerton Aerodrome- which at that time was the main road to Nottingham from outlying villages Keyworth and Plumtree. At the end of the building nearest the road is a water tower, still there today, but in the early sixties, there was some sort of domed structure on top of it, which had disappeared by the mid sixties, if not before. My older brother used to climb up to it with his mates and i remember once they rigged up a brush handle poking out of it to look like a gun. I;ve done some looking around on the web and it would seem that
  3. Didnt Gascoigne give his ex wife numerous beatings?
  4. We found Swiftcover, which isn't on comparison sites cheapest, if your a low risk although Its all online, you cant speak to a person. While inputting your details you can mess around with things such as voluntary excess and see what impact it has on the premium very easily. Also, often, the more drivers you declare, the more the premium seems to go down, same with some other companies too, although, obviously it doesent work with such as a newly qualified driver being added.
  5. #46 Bob, i guess you were an electrical service engineer at William Watts then, which would explain why i didnt see you there. I started there in '79 i think, working on those east german machine tools, in house mainly. Bob Hare was the service manager then. People out on the road i can remember are Gordon Wise,Sharpey and a guy from coventry who got banned for drink driving.
  6. Yes, nice chap. His son, Chris worked there as well.
  7. Bob, i mixed you up with Bob Fawcett, i think. Here's a few of the others that were in EDM while i was there, i'm sure you and Mick will remember some of them,- Tommy Tedds, Barry Voce ,Pete Hollins, Bob Fawcett, Al Bexton, Ken Birkin, Henry Mason, Chris Metcalf, Fred Limerick, Mad Harry, George Sawicki. And the whitecoats- Baz Holmes, Ron Saunders and Bob Corps. Charlie George was the top man.

  9. Is it bobby2jags fewkes? Yes, remember heated arguments Mick. Leccy's one end of the bench, fitters at the other end.
  10. Surprised i didnt know you Mick, i spent many an hour in Barry Sander's cabin, listening to him put the world right. He seemed to have his working time and break times back to front. Half an hours work, followed by a four hour break. A character though and he did charity work. Saw him four or five years ago at Igor Ashwell's funeral. He's since passed on..
  11. If its who i think it is, he was my apprentice master, Mick
  12. Hi bobby2jags. I went from the ROF to William Watts. Were you on maintenance at ROF ?
  13. In the early 60's, our next door neighbours daughter became pregnant at a young age, she would have been 15 or 16. She was kept indoors throughout the pregnancy, not allowed out or seen again until the baby was born, and adopted.
  14. I bought some quality loppers from B & Q this spring. Couple of weeks ago one of the jaws broke. Phoned up B & Q about returning them and the guy in charge rather stupidly reckoned that even though i bought them with a one year warranty, they were classed as a seasonal item and the warranty was only valid for 8 weeks ??. I got his name sharpish and continued the (brief) argument on their facebook page. End result was a new set of loppers and a £30 voucher.
  15. No £12000 fee for Terry this year then.
  16. Theres a foodbank in Loughborough i sometimes pass. Those in the queue are usually on their mobile phones or playing games on them.
  17. When i was a kid, i remember looking at traction engines - i think there were two, in the yard at the rear of the Nottingham City Waterworks offices on Castle Boulevard, at the junction with Castle Road. Does anyone else remember them, or why they were there?
  18. #309 It was Dennis and his son Paul. Paul was a keen sidecar racer, he has a garage on little tennis street. swe62, that will be the wandering blob.
  19. It was mentioned on the telly yesterday that he had been transferred to another hospital.
  20. If i'm not busy, i usually start an argument, starting with " Where did you get this number from ? i'm ex directory", not letting them get a word in about what they are trying to flog.
