  1. I remember Twigdons the newsagents, as well as the 'Tiled' butcher, my Father told me my Grandma used to own part of the Twigdons business... but was ' Done Down ' and lost money due to the other people involved. You can still see where it was on Street view... Its now a ladies Gym.
  2. Hey Pixie... You mean Rex Robinsons, as Beefsteak says it used to be where Tesco's Booze aisle is now, Used to be a Dealer for Puch bikes and Mopeds, and Raleigh I believe, old Rex used to always wear a brown shop coat ( like 'Arkright ' in 'Open all hours ', I think he must be long gone now, I think the guy who runs it now used to work with Rex. Also... Do you remember there was a Chinese takeaway next door to 'Rex's ', and Crosslands Motorbikes for a while too... on the other corner going up Carlton hill I seem to remember an 'off licence ' ? Oh and apologies if this has been linked
  3. Hi.. I've done the cherished transfer thing a few times... send me a personal message with your contact details and we can chat.
  4. Hmmm.. Right here goes, As I came from Gedling and owned bikes from the mid 70s onwards, There were a number of shops I remember... Dawsons in Netherfield, Rex Robbo on Carlton Hill ( for my Puch Grand Prix ), a few doors up from that for a time was 'Crosslands' who later moved down to the shops facing Carlton precinct, Lowater St motors of course, many hours spent searching the yard for that ilusive spare part. the owner Dennis Rogers used to have a three wheel Morgan car, going down into town was TMS and Clarkes the Honda dealer. Roy Wharton had a shop on Radford Road ( I knew his son John

  6. Hey Charlotte... I remember that place ! , on the right hand side of the main street as you walk towards the beach, at one time there were Trampolines as well as a carousel... I think also at one time there were Dodgems inside, the room was very large, a few sidestalls around the outside and a cafe on the left hand side. The elephant used to go 'Inside a cave... and come out with your prize box on its back which then tipped off... I agree it was usually full of tat. The last building on the left hand side ( nearest the beach ) used to have a lot of older machines, including a 'Cowboy Quick
  7. My thoughts exactly... Lets spend Billions on the Olympic dream whilst ignoring Kids with leukemia , People needing drugs /treatment for cancer, pensioners needing help 365 days a year and a myriad of other WORTHY causes ... just lets have the Games to further our 'Standing' in Europe and the wider world, whilst our politicians stuff themselves at the trough with expenses and anything else they can grab. Meanwhile the great unwashed ( you and me ) take in everything the BBC tells us... how we are all soooooo looking forward to these Games, and how we should be honoured to be holding them in '
  8. I did a few Disco's here in the early 1980s... after hours we continued for the staff and used to sleep over in the bar area ( on the benches )before leaving the next morning. Did many a gig around Nottingham city centre... Admiral Duncan, Hearty Goodfellow and others before having a residency at the Society Club on Lower Parliament Street ( Above the Garage ) which went on to be 'Toppers'.
  9. Hi all... Passed by the Apollo pub near Morrisons , Bulwell yesterday morning... its just a shell... and I suspect a pile of rubble within a few days. I only went in a couple of times many years ago...not the most welcoming place but the building itself was imposing, Oh well... another link to the past ends up as hardcore.
  10. After years at 'Jackie Bells' field it moved onto Marhill Rd in Carlton, ( off Station Rd ), it was on wasteground at the top of the road which is now built upon.
  11. Another Scooter dealer on Radford Road wes Roy Wharton ( Lambrettas mainly I think ! )
  12. Hello All... I'm a newbie here so please excuse me if some of these 'random memory' moments have been covered elsewhere.... I worked at the old Sytner place on Mapperley Plains in the late 1970s, when it was called ' Plains Motor Company' ran by a fellow named Trevor Perkins, I was the apprentice, the 2 mechanics were Ray and Kev , many a long lunchbreak was spent at the Tree Tops pub with these guys... I can't remember the sales managers name but he was a posh bloke ( well... he talked posh ). The girls on the petrol pumps were Eileen and Jaquie, not forgetting old Les the old chap who us
  13. Hello all... I wondered if anyone on here can remember a 'Siddons' garage or car sales in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire ? from around the early 1960s... could have been an Austin Dealership ? Any help would be appreciated.
