  2. In Loughborough there are so many "modern" monstrosities ("new buildings") I was thinking of running a campaign to have the town "twinned" with "Lego Land"

  6. "The Walter Fountain" was erected in Memory of John Walter a one time editor of the "Times" newspaper by his son a Nottingham M.P.in 1866 at a cost of £1,000. It Was a trolley bus pole which caused the stone to be knocked off the fountain in1939,the man killed was aged 73 & named William Bradbury. The fountain was demolished in 1950 in a road widening scheme.

  8. I paid Nottingham A visit Last week and on going up Carlton Road I noticed that Smithy's(The Crown Inn) was being demolished.

  11. Which "bit" of Meadow Lane? The northern end is certainly "Sneinton" & where it joins London Road is certainly "The Meadows" so where do you draw the "boundary"? And what still counts as "The East Croft"?

I have some large scale maps of Nottingham dated 1880/1/2 (140) with the pubs named there were 6 on Narrow Marsh(Red Lion Street) now Cliff Road alone I also have a few(100 ish!) dated 1952/3/4 ish) I have got the 1880 pubs listed listed but have only recently acquired the 1950s maps. Here are a few Duke of Wellington Mount East Street Bunker's Hill Inn Bunker's Hill?Mount East street Sir Walter Scott Clare Street Ancient Druid Newcastle Street Butchers Arms Newcastle street/Newton Street All the above "went" when Victoria Station was built.
