  5. Jim Holmes lived next door to us and he worked at Wrigleys Wagon Works , I remember going there as a kid and watching him operating a great big steam hammer banging away on axles or such. Also we went Potatoe picking on Top Valley Farm nearby for a few Coppers. During the war Bulwell Forest was planted with Old Railings in a type of " A " frame , supposedly to stop enemy aircraft making a landing. In around 1954 I was called back on R.A.F. reserve, when we arrived at the Airfield nobody had a clue what to do with us so we spent a lot of time in Dispersal and I manage to scrounge a flight in

Is Mackesons of Bulwell still running, they did a Pit Run to Bestwood from Bulwell. in the 60`s My brother rented a shop from Mackesons on Commercial Road and the upstairs was boarded off, when we made access to the upstairs, it was a time warp to the 20`s, it had been a Drapers storeroom and there were lots of " Roaring 20`s " dresses , strings of beads and all sorts, our sisters and sisters in law had a ball trying on all the stuff.

  19. Our family had a few " Stock Phrases " such as " Doing a 412 ". if someone was showing off etc ., this comes from an old Stan Freberg 78 " St George And The Dragon " which is a take off of a popular Cop Show " Dragnet". 20. It helps save your live if you run out of Air, also Divers have come up late and found the Boat gone if the crew have miss counted returning Divers,. Thats why Divers wear watches. I agree swimmers with Watches on are just making a statement or don`t want the Watch nicked whilst swimming, which makes sense. http://www.watchxl.c...h-vp5028bk.html
  21. Look in the " Fridge " that`s where I have found a few bits that don`t belong in there !!!
  22. A few years back, my brother Alan ( A member of the Ilkeston Sub Aqua Club ) and some mates were out in a boat off the Breakwater in Plymouth Harbour doing some diving. Alan came to the surface and found he had lost his ( Expensive ) watch. After a number of fruitless searches of the bottom they gave up. A storm blew up and lasted a good while and curtailed going out for a day or two. The weather improved and off they went, about two miles off shore and one guy said " Eh Danny it`s about here where you lost your watch how about diving here " " Don`t be daft" or such other comments were mad
