  1. Here's an old photo of a Nottingham company, Thompson Jewitt.
  2. I was sorting some stuff in the loft and found this Quality Street camera, still unwrapped. I'd assume it was a free gift that came with the chocolates. I'd also assume that they'd end up in the dustbin making mine a rarity. Because of this I think I'll let Compo start a bidding war, haha.
  3. Hello, annswabey and DAVIDW. I'm sorry for the delay in replying. I've attached a copy of one of the pages in the report and it shows that his mother was Mrs E Burton. Because of this I'd assume your findings were correct.
  4. When I logged into Nottstalgia on Monday I had some good news to report but when I saw the posts about Chulla it didn't seem that important anymore. My good news relates to Chulla and yourself, catfan. For a while you and Chulla had both been stressing the importance of getting checked for prostate cancer. I hadn't had any symptoms or anything but because of your posts I saw my doctor and had a blood test which, thankfully, was found to be normal.
  5. Welcome to Nottstalgia, Phil. I look forward to reading your posts and sharing your memories.
  6. I haven't been on Nottstalgia for a while so I've only just learned of Chulla passing away. I first saw 'Member Offline' and stared at it with disbelief and sadness. I knew Chulla was ill but hadn't realised how seriously. I thought he was responding well to his treatment. I've just read every one of the posts and the warm feelings, friendship and respect that shone through even though some, like myself, had never met him. I always found Chulla to be a very intelligent and witty chap who amused us with so many of his poems. A great loss to Nottstalgia. My belated condolances to his w
  7. The Queen can move in any direction, in case you didn't know.
  8. I was going through some paperwork in the loft today and came across this school reports book. It is from The Highbury School for Boys and the reports are from 1940 to 1943. The pupil is Bernard Burton and his date of admission, aged 11, was 26-08-40. I have no idea where it came from or how it came to be in my possession. The book itself is in perfect condition and is a small piece of Nottingham history.
  9. I saw this interesting article today which I'm sure that most of us can identify with. https://hubpages.com/education/Working-Class-Life-1940s-and-50s-The-Old-Tin-Bath
  10. Happy birthday, Margie. I hope you're enjoying your special day.
  11. This video is about Radio Trent and includes an interview with Tug Wilson. There are other follow on videos regarding Radio Trent.
  12. Nottingham Forest have sacked their manager today and a Nottingham Post report is attached below. http://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/nottingham-forest-news-transfers-live-993071
  13. Marty Wilde with 'Sea Of Love' which was released in 1959.
  14. I think you've made some sensible decisions there, Rob. Our old photos become special to us and to those we hand them down to.
  15. Rob, three full suitcases is rather a lot of work but I'll bet you enjoyed going through them all. I had to look up Dropbox to see what it was. What happens if the firm goes bust you'll probably lose all your photos. My youngest son bought me an external hard drive and I keep copies of my photos and videos on that.
  16. I was in a similar situation to you, Lizzie. I had boxes of photos all over the house and one day I was trying to find a particular photo. After spending what seemed like hours searching for it I decided that I'd download them all onto my computer. It does seem a daunting task when you begin but it becomes quite enjoyable. With todays technology you can edit and crop your photos to how you want them quite easily. I started off just doing a few at a time but as you get into it you just don't want to stop. As you go through the photos you experience a million memories and emotions. At the end of
  17. I really shouldn't be laughing so much at your post, Lizzie.
  18. There were two items at the top of my Christmas present list and I wasn't disappointed: Ferrero Rocher and Chocolate Brazils. For me, there's nothing better.
  19. Happy birthday, katyjay. I hope you enjoy your special day.
  20. My neighbour must love Christmas, look how many trees they've got up this year.
  21. Here's some location stills of the film from around Nottingham. If you put your cursor over the photos some will show how they look today. http://www.reelstreets.com/index.php?option=com_films_online&task=view&id=2239
  22. There's an interesting article in the Nottingham Post today regarding the village of Glapton. http://www.nottinghampost.com/news/history/lovely-village-edge-nottingham-wiped-831406
  23. Bleddy Amazon and Black Friday. I ordered four Kindles and they sent me a 'Two Ronnies' DVD.
