  2. Big problem with moss in the grass at the back of my place it's an area that never gets any sunshine on it even in summer, I have tried aerating the area using my garden fork and raking in some sharp sand, I have used my powered scarifyer and also a good going over with a lawn rake all to no avail. 10. Between Castle gate and Middle gate there is a small alleyway and at the entrance off Castle gate are these unusual bricks set into the wall about twelve to fifteen inches from the ground, the story is when the alleyway was constructed 17th/18th century men would urinate against the wall to help combat this practice these angled bricks (some with fluted tops) was set into the wall therefore directing any urine from the culprit back towards his trousers and boots, I don't know whether it did stop the practice but I think we could do with something like these against some of the walls in some ci

  20. Some years ago Dr David Bellamy was giving talks and presentations at the Attenborough nature reserve (before the visitor center was there) and because I was working at that quarry I volunteered to help him set up his stage and props for his talk, we got on well together and had a great discussion about the nature reserve there and he was really interested (or he showed he was) in the fact that I started my interest in ornithology at the reserve some thirty years before through an after hours club at school and that I had carried on the interest into my later life and what an ideal job I had t
