  1. Nice pictures there Beefsteak, and the new lens is working a treat, can't wait to see the Danish F16s, by the way, did you have your camera upside down in the first shot? !rotfl! Cheers mate and roll on the 8th April Rog
  2. Beefsteak arrived at my place at 08.00hrs and after a quick coffee we set off for RAF Scampton, I know Beefsteak is a great Red Arrows fan and he wasn't disappointed, on arrival there was a single Red Hawk going through his routine, the new lens was put through it's paces with some high speed passes, a few minutes later four more Reds took off and displayed what looked like the a new routine for 2009 this gave Beefy plenty of chances to get all the pictures he wanted of the Reds in action, he called it his "personal display". A quick drive up to Waddington for a cuppa and bacon roll at the Sen

  4. Ayup Mick, Talking about Zulu, I live about a mile and a half from Gonville-Bromheads (Michael Cain's character in the film) family home, in fact his great great niece still tends to the flowers in the family church, she was talking to my missus the other week about her family history, but you know women, didn't have a clue who she was on about. I must get some pictures for you Rog
  5. Battle of Britain, Dambusters, Zulu.
  6. Have you tried the National Coal Mining museum for England? they have massive archives, might be worth getting in touch with them Rog
  7. Never see anyone go scrumping any more
  8. How did the NASA boffins know the moon lander was going to settle on the moons surface in a dead level attitude, the reason I'm asking this is because if the lander was only slightly tilted from the vertical on take off it wouldn't be on the same course as the command vehicle and quite a lot of course altering would be needed to get it back on the same trajectory< I dont remember any such maneuvering taking place while I was watching it on TV, just a thought Rog
  9. Ayup John, Probably mentioned it before but there is/was a self published "book" called "Radford colliery the bread and herring pit" don't remember the author though, I think he did it all on his home PC and stapled all the pages together, fantastic read, unfortunately I lent my copy to someone and never saw it again, got it from that Nottingham book shop under the council house building Rog
  10. looking forward to reading your posts, welcome to a great site Rog
  11. Hi Bazzer, Take the locking nut off and turn it upside down (as if putting it on the wrong way) that should lock your cutting disc in place, (thick disc is for grinding, thin disc is for cutting but the locking nut is the same) hope this has helped Rog ps: never tighten the lock not with the spanner/tool, thats just for loosening
  12. According to a press release, if the Vulcan to the skies trust can't raise £400.000 in the next month they are going to declare the project/company bankrupt, Some American company's or individuals have shown an interest in buying the whole thing but if that happens it will all be shipped to the United States, so it looks like the only flight it will be making will be to the USA, the staff at Vulcan to the skies (14) have been put on a months notice Rog
  13. Happy Birthday Caz, we're all thinking about you Rog
  14. It's still a lot less fuel to carry though as opposed to breaking through the earths atmosphere and gravitational pull, but in typical yank fashion once they've been to a place they are never quite so welcome to go back again Rog
  15. The Americans tell us that it would be too expensive to launch another moon mission, why? they are nearly half way there already with the space station and to launch a space ship from there would require a lot less fuel (the most expensive and the most heavy part of a rocket) than it would from the earth with the gravitational pull that's involved, they tell us that the next visit will be to Mars but why not use the moon as a launch pad? less gravity equals less fuel equals smaller space ship or same size space ship with more capacity for crew or spares Rog
  16. So if the moon is made of cheese why isn't it infested with mice?
  17. The last moon landing had to be abandoned when an electrical fault developed in the landers ignition sytem not allowing the fuel to ignite, the on board electrician said it could not be repaired as he couldn't get an Earth !laughing! Rog from that great planet....Nottingham
  18. Ayup Kev, You can still get Black Cat and Craven "A" with proper cork tips from the tobaconist under the council house building. I think the Black Cat brand was revived in the 70s complete with cigarette cards, "Uniforms of the British army" collected the whole set then left them in the old house when I left home Rog

  23. Do you think the pykies have nicked all the stuff that was left and weighed it in? I remember watching the "moon landings" as it happened on a 12volt portable TV that the boss bought to work, all exciting stuff at the time but when you watch all the conspiracy theory programs and read some of the books it make you wonder, the yanks are a corrupt bunch at the best of times but to solve all the logistics and technical stuff involved in getting a man on the moon and succeed in getting him back to earth safely is just bewildering. To say the slightest problems they get faced with these days they
  24. Hi Kev, Good bit of info there, Knew it was going down the ECML yesterday so took a drive to North Muskham and settled in a lay by near the track, good view of the line in both directions, It was reported to be arriving at Kings Cross just before 14.00 hrs so I figured it would be passing Newark 2 1/2 hrs earlier, Just for good measure I settled at Muskham for 10.30hrs, sat there until 12.00hrs to be told "it passed here at 10.15 hrs" never mind, she'll be doing that run quite regular in the summer so hopefully see it then Rog
  25. Ashley, the last time I heard of him he was being chased across Canada I think by some irate husband. Remember Les Clarke had a semi kneeler outfit with a BSA 650 motor riden by Ray Waplington and passengered by Stan Goodman, won quite a few races at Darley Moore, I remember welding a kneeler outfit frame together for him out of 1" box steel and he fitted an Hillman imp engine when the first water cooled four cylinder jobs came into being, sprayed silver I think and it's first outing was Darley moor Rog
