  1. Like Ashley, I was born in that area, and also walked up and down Nottingham Rd, sometimes four times a day, to and from Claremont school in 1967, but never recall seeing any thing like that. The only two churches as far as I know were/are the one near the Gregory Blvd junction, and the one at the junction of Haydn Rd/Northgate, and Nottingham Rd, any idea as to which one it would have been near to?
  2. Moulin Rouge @19" was bottom of Mansfield Rd/Milton St,I recall that they often showed naughty "X" rated films, and I saw a horror film there that was also an X, but had no problem getting in, despite being only 13¬
  3. As a very small kid my mum would take me to town on the train instead of on the 41, and occasionally I was allowed to ride on the footplate was it called? Anyone got any pics of the station, I'd love to see them.
  4. Nah! The Audiomaster speakers had Audax drivers in them, nothing to do with Wharfedale. How tall are they by the way...about 2 foot?
  5. Radio can sure be a fickle mistress, take John Peters for instance, first breakfast DJ to be heard on Trent, same with GEM, a similar scenario with Saga and then Smooth, and then Smooth "let him go" and he is now on a much smaller station with a restricted coverage, when he should really be on one of the larger stations. In the States, the older DJ is revered, here it seems the opposite applies, that is such a shame.
  6. That DJ could well have been me! I inherited my show from Kenny Hague, and the "All time Top 5" was a feature that I took over, and would invite listeners to send in their top 5 songs, and would play them, before calling them up for a brief chat on air. I (in hindsight) stupidly changed the title of the feature, as disco was Thee insound, to your favourite five disco discs (FFDD)
  7. Why is it that a number of drivers can't seem to keep in just the one lane when using an island(roundabout)? They somehow feel the need to go from the one they started in, go to the next one either side of them, no indication naturally, and then go back into the first one they were in? I am hacked off by nearly being broadsided by these idiots, especially at the Dunkirk flyover island, where again today a driver sets off in the nearside lane to go straight on, and then just careers across into the lane I was in, and back again half way around! Coincidentally one such idiot did it just as t
  8. PS, interesting to note that all of the stations in the group are keeping the same breakfast teams, so Nottingham keeps Twiggy and Emma, but rumours are rife that it is only because they don't want to alienate listeners away from the station.........YET! Let's see what they do a month or three down the line.
  9. Have to agree with you there, the demise started when GWR purchased it (Trent) from Capital Radio, who bought the group just to get their hands on BRMB, who were in the same Midlands Radio Group. In no time at all, the output from the three East Midlands stations, and indeed the rest in the group became the same, when they started using identical playlists, and apart from a minute or two difference, it was possible to tune between Trent Ram And Leicester Sound, and hear the same song, ringing alarm bells as to what was eventually to come.
  10. Hand and Heart on Derby Rd sell a rather tasty bitter, brewed in Stapleford, for an amazing £2 a pint! Oddly called Hand and Heart Ale.................
  11. Blogsy, as mentioned in the PM to you, it is highly doubtful that the current Radio Trent at Chapel Bar will have any original Trent stuff archived, when I still worked there when it was in it's birthplace, Castle Gate, tons of stuff was " outed" Coincidence time here, only last Monday, I met up again with the main man as far as Nottingham agencies go, Tony Sherwood, after many years of non contact, and it was he who did the bookings for The Grey Topper, putting on all the big names there, Again, as mentioned, unless you have already made contact with him, I shall give him your contact deta
  12. Wayne Kennedy, remember him from local band Wayne Kennedy & The Flash Cats, is organising a charity re union night at The Shipley Boat Inn, (MFN) I will be playing 60's and 70's music in the bar, and in the main room there are live bands, Rogers Rockin Relics, and original 50's rock n roll star from Philadelphia, Charlie Gracie. The charity to benefit from the night is Victim Support, and we look forward to seeing you there next Monday night @ 8.00 (1st of November )
  13. Rons was Thee place to get your regulation French crew cut, which was what nearly all mods had after the back combed bouffant look of about a year or so previous! 5 bob I recall it cost, and Jeffs saw much of my pocket money off, with " Lord John of Carnaby Street" hipsters, and check button down shirts, ala Stevie Winwood, but then they had my 52/6 for original Levi 501's, of which a year or so back were fetching £500 in shops just off Carnaby Street! If anyone is interested, I still have some of my old ones, and you can have them for a mere £300!!!!! No, really.
  14. On January 3rd 2011 the radio station that was born on the 3rd of July 1975 will cease to be. Many stations in the group owned by Global Media will merge, and become "Capital FM 95 to 106" and only two shows per day will actually come from Nottingham, breakfast and drivetime. As someone who started his radio career in March 1980 there, I personally am very saddened that we are to lose a "heritage" brand. Leicester Sound & Ram will also be no more, again, two stations I worked on, being involved in the launch of both. Commiserations to my friends and former colleagues who are losing the
  15. That would have been my guess too Ashley, it sure looks like Lincoln St, just near Billy Bacons!
  16. Zab and I had the privilege of Reg, or sir as we had to call him overseeing our footy matches at Claremont.
  17. I had to smile, in the attachment the landlord discovers he has a fire, and calls the police!!!!! Gordon Bennet, didn't someone ought to let him know that it might have been better to have called the fire brigade?
  18. Is it a Moathouse? I went by yesterday, and its called The Park Inn, anyway, back in it's glory days as The Savoy, I did many a gig there under the ownership of The Pickering Brothers.
  19. I had an "invitation" on Facebook, that at first glimpse looked as if it was a fact that England shirts and flags would not be allowed to be worn, or flown. On "Googling" it, it was total cobblers, just some weird person/people putting "spin" on a situation, to make it look as if the Asian population had complained about it, which was not factual. I'm afraid that there are a few people who voted in a certain way, who are responsible for this.
  20. Back in the day, a guy called Richard Kenton that I knew, basically because he walked by my house everyday to and from work, loaned me his bass guitar amp, and in exchange, I lent him some of my soul and motown singles and Lp's for a gig he was doing at The L Shaped Room. I never got them back, he claimed they had been stolen. A few years later whilst watching TOTP or OGWT, I saw this man I thought I recognised playing bass in Roxy Music. It was him, he had changed his name from Richard to a more trendy Rik. Probably in a bid to fool me as to who he was! )
  21. Fwiw, I was in Exeter last week, and there is a huge former hotel now a Wetherspoons pub, called The Imperial. It has a huge "conservatory" built/designed? by Brunel, and is a rather amazing place, that aside, whatever you might think about Wetherspoons, you can't say they are ripping people off. I had a pint of bitter, can't remember it;s name but it was a guest beer, in the vein of Harvest Pale, wife had a medium size wine, and daughter had a Pimms and lemonade, it cost less than £6! Double Martell cognac at £2.45, crazy! Incidentally, earlier in an hotel nearby, we had 2 J20's, and a ho
  22. So it's not all bad news then............ !rotfl!
  23. Dunno why, but I couldn't get into Terry's Sunday show, and now it isn't there....what's happened to him now? EDIT. Cancel the question, I should have looked on the Beeb site first, he is back in June.
